One of the biggest hindrances to trusting God in real life is thinking of God as “up
there” or “out there”. While it is true that God is on His throne, it is also true that He is
with us. Basic theology teaches the omnipresence of God. The New Testament teaches
us that the believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. God is with us.

We must further understand that God’s presence is not merely as an observer. He is
personally involved in our circumstances. Our living and our praying should be shaped
by this wonderful truth.

We see this demonstrated by David’s experiences in Psalm 18. He looks back to when
he was pursued by Saul and his other enemies. David was overwhelmed and he sought
God in prayer. The psalm shows how God is involved in the lives of His children.

We first see that God is passionately involved in our lives. He is not half-heartedly
going through the motions. God deeply cares about us. When David prayed, God
caused the earth to quake (verse 7). Fire and smoke came from the Lord (verse 8).
God was passionate about David’s needs.

Our Father deeply loves us. We are the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:8). He is
concerned about everything that concerns us. He is passionately involved.
God is powerfully involved in our lives. He does not hold back His unlimited power.
Verses 9-15 show God using the wind, darkness, thunder, hailstones, and fire to lay
bare the foundations of the world. God did not hold back His power.

What have we to worry or fear? What can withstand such power? We will never face a
problem that exceeds God’s power or His willingness to use it.

David also knew God was perfectly involved in His circumstances. Verse 30 says, “As
for God, His way is blameless…” David knew that God would do the right thing in the
right way in the right time.

Our God is perfect. We may not understand His ways or His timing, but we can trust
Him. He is perfect in all He does.

Lastly, David knew God was purposefully involved. Verse 50 says, “He gives great
deliverance to His king, and shows lovingkindness to His anointed, to David and his
descendants forever.” David knew that all he was going through was for God to fulfill
His plans and purposes for him. David knew that God was fulfilling His promises to
David and preparing David for that fulfillment.

God is using our present circumstances to fulfill His plans for us. Nothing we face is
pointless. God is at work preparing us. We can trust Him.

Child of God, the Lord is with you. He is involved in every part of your life. You can
trust Him.
