What do the Jewish Passover and Jesus’ Last Supper have in common? Anna Beth of Light of Messiah Ministries in Atlanta will answer that question as they present “Jesus in the Passover.” The “Jesus in the Passover” service will bring to life the Jewish roots of faith in Jesus and the celebration of Communion. Anna Beth will have a Passover table set up with all of the traditional elements involved in the Passover meal.
During the service you will see how Jewish people celebrate Passover today, how the symbolic foods of Passover picture God’s redemption, and personally participate in taking the traditional elements, and how Jesus is beautifully foreshadowed in the Passover celebration and story. This is a service for anyone.

A love offering will be taken up to support Light of Messiah Ministries.

On Thursday, March 21, we will give out popcorn and cookies during the movie shown to the community during the Fire Ant Festival. This is a great time for us to embrace and interact with our community. Please let Jonathan know if you can make cookies to be given out. You will need to have the cookies at the church on Wednesday, March 20th, before family night so that we can package them.

We also need volunteers to help distribute popcorn and cookies at Heritage Park from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Let Jonathan know if you can help with part or all of this time.

Project for Operation Christmas Child

What brings God’s judgment?  This may not be a pleasant question, but we must know its answer.  Our lives and eternity depend upon knowing the answer.

A good answer is found in 2 Kings 17:7-8.  In this passage, God explains why He sent the northern kingdom of Israel into captivity in Assyria.  The explanation revolves around four major reasons.  These are the same reasons that bring God’s judgment in every generation – including ours.

First, Israel turned away from God.  Verse 7 says they sinned against God.  Verse 14 says they did not believe in God.  These verses mean that Israel chose to stop believing, trusting, and following God.

This should cause us to examine ourselves.  Have we turned away from God?  Do we believe, obey, and follow His Word?  Are we wanting to live for Him?  Turning away from trusting and following God is the first step toward judgment.

Next, Israel adopted the sins of the nations around them.  They were supposed to be separate from the surrounding nations but became increasingly like them.  They went from compromising to imitating to joining. 

Does that sound familiar and personal? Have you become increasingly like the world?  God calls us to be holy (1 Peter 1:16).  He will not tolerate us being like the sinful world around us. 

God then addressed their idolatry (v. 7b, 9b-13, 16b-17).  Israel sought, worshipped, and served the false gods of the surrounding nations.  This worship involved horrible immoral acts and even included child sacrifice (v. 16).  Israel rejected the true God who loved, protected, and provided for them.  They chose false gods who could not help and caused the Israelites to hurt themselves. 

We must guard ourselves against idolatry.  Anything that competes with the Lord for our devotion and trust is an idol.  This would also include an unbiblical concept of God.  We must take all forms of idolatry seriously.  God had made it clear that He wants no other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3).

Lastly, Israel refused to listen (verses 13-14).  God sent a succession of prophets, but Israel refused to hear them.  God repeatedly warned them, but they ignored Him.  They left God no other option but to judge them.

We must be careful to listen to the Lord.  If He is warning us or seeking a correction in our lives we must heed Him.  God will not just go away.  If we don’t deal with the issue, He will.

God’s dealings with Israel are not mere ancient history.  They are examples of how He deals with His people in every generation.  We would be wise to listen.
