MID-WEEK DEVOTION

Remember to check out Brother David’s Mid-Week Devotion in Psalms.
They are uploaded each Wednesday on the sermon page.

From Our Pastor

Child of God, are you experiencing the life God wants to give you?  In our desire to see people saved from their sins, we often neglect the beauty and wonder of the Christian life.  We proclaim the new birth and neglect the new life.

What does the Christian life look like?  While we could never fully answer that question in a lifetime, we do see some key elements in Psalm 4.  In this psalm, David is seeking God’s guidance and protection.  He also shows the blessings we have as believers.

First, God has made us His own.  Verse 3a says, ā€œBut know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himselfā€¦ā€  The wonderful truth of salvation is that God has adopted us as His children (1 John 3:1).  We have not merely joined a cause.  God has brought us into His family.  We are His children, and He is our Father.  What a blessing!

Next, God invites us to pray and listens to our prayer.  Verse 3 continues, ā€œā€¦The Lord hears when I call to Him.ā€  This confidence in prayer is not just for David.  It is for every believer.  Jeremiah 33:3 says, ā€œCall to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.ā€  We can take our every fear, concern, or worry to the Lord.  He will hear and answer.  What a wonderful Father we have!

God also gives us joy.  We don’t have to try to make ourselves happy from the outside.  God gives a true and lasting joy from within.  His joy is so much better than anything the world has to offer.  Verse 7 says, ā€œYou have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and new wine abound.ā€  In contrast to the emptiness we see in the lives of non-believers, we have His joy.  How blessed are we?

Last, He gives us peace.  Amazingly, it is not a peace that is experienced after a problem is solved.  He gives us peace in the midst of the crisis.  Verse 8 says, ā€œIn peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety.ā€  Paul described this as a peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7).

What a blessing in a time of need!

Child of God, you are loved and blessed by the Father.  Love Him!  Praise Him!  Live the life He wants to give you as His child.
