Men’s Bible Study

Dive deeper into the book of Philippians on Wednesday night during Men’s Bible Study. They meet each Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the fellowship hall. All men are welcome to join at any time.

From Our Pastor

How do you think the Lord responds when we come to Him for help?  That may seem to be a strange question, but it is based on a profound truth.  A large part of our ability to come to the Lord for help is based on the response that we think we will get from Him.  If we believe He will favorably respond, we find it easy to come to Him.  If we think He will respond negatively, it will be difficult to come to Him.

Fortunately, we don’t have to wonder, guess, or speculate about the Lord’s response to us.  His Word gives numerous instructions and examples.  From Genesis to Revelation, we see God’s welcoming love when His people seek Him.

The woman in Matthew 9:20-22 clearly illustrates God’s loving response.  She had suffered from a hemorrhage for twelve years.  She knew if she could touch even the Lord’s garment that she would get well.  She came behind the Lord and touched the fringe of His cloak as He traveled to the synagogue official’s daughter. 

What was the Lord’s response?  He called her “Daughter”.  He did not call her a polite but distant name (like “ma’am” in English).  He did not say “Hey, you.”  No, He called her “Daughter”.  He called her that name to show His love and care for her.

It is the same for us.  He calls us “Son” or “Daughter”.  We are never merely “You” or some stuffy, distant name.  We are His children by His grace.  His response to us is the response of a perfect loving Father.

Next, He gave her an encouraging invitation.  He told her “…take courage…”  The idea was that she and her need were accepted by Him.

That is the Lord’s response to us.  He tells us in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to Me and I will answer you…” Hebrews 4:6 says we can “…draw near with confidence to the throne of grace…”  Our Lord is always eager to hear our needs.

Last, we can be confident that our Lord will wonderfully work on our behalf.  Verse 22b says, “your faith has made you well. ‘At once the woman was made well.”  Our Lord used His unlimited power in the woman’s life.

He promises to do the same for us.  Jeremiah 33:3 concludes with God promising, “… and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”  Hebrews 4:16b says, “… so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”  God will use His unlimited power to fulfil His perfect plan in our lives.

Child of God, don’t ever hesitate in seeking the Father’s help.  He deeply loves you.  He invites you to seek His help.  He promises to work in ways that are amazing.  Trust Him.
