Homecoming CLeanup

A clean-up day has been planned for August 3, 2024, at 8:00 AM to help prepare the church for homecoming. If anyone can help, please make plans to attend.

Attention Sunday School Classes: Plan to straighten up your classroom before homecoming. Don’t fear the dumpster; it can be your best friend.

Preparing for Homecoming on August 25, 2024

On August 25, 2024, First Baptist will celebrate 135 years of ministry in the heart of Ashburn. As we prepare for this special homecoming event, we need your help. Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

What beautiful lyrics!  What a wonderful message!  But how often do we apply it?  How much peace do we forfeit, and pain do we bear because we don’t take everything to God in prayer?

Let’s make this personal.  How much peace are you forfeiting, and pain are you bearing because there is something you haven’t taken to God in prayer?

There can be several reasons for not entrusting something to God.  We may struggle to believe that He loves us.  We may doubt that He cares about our problems.  We may struggle to believe that He can handle our problems.

Our Lord’s miracles in Matthew 9:18-38 address all these concerns. Think of the individuals our Lord chose to help.  In verses 18-26, He helped a little girl and a sick woman – in a culture that did not value women.  In verses 27-31, He helped two blind men when disabled people were overlooked.  In verse 32, He helped a demon -possessed man when the usual response was avoidance.  In verse 35, He helped everyone who was sick and diseased in a day when such conditions were horrible to see.

He lovingly reached out to each of them.  What a testimony of His love!  What encouragement!  We can trust Him because He does love us.  In fact, He loves us with an everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31:3)

As for His caring about our problems, think about the ones in that chapter.  He cared about death, an embarrassing and debilitating disease, blindness, demon possession and every kind of problem.  He cares about your every problem.   1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.”  You can trust Him to care about your every concern.

What about His ability to handle the problem?  Think about the problems He solved in this chapter.  He healed every type of sickness.  He raised the dead.  He even cast out a demon.  It’s obvious there is no problem that He cannot handle.  No matter what you are facing, He can handle it.

What a wonderful Lord we have!  Don’t forfeit the peace He wants to give you.  Don’t bear pain He never wanted you to carry.  Take everything to Him in prayer.
