If you would be interested in participating in a Ladies Bible Study, contact Elizabeth See at 567-4381. The study will be held in the Family Ministry building. This will be an evening bible study. However, the exact time and date will be decided according to the response.  

Sunday School Spotlight

The Happy Sunday School Class is self-described as a group of ladies who enjoy loving on each other and working well together. They enjoy getting together to work on projects or share a meal throughout the year. In addition, they support Lottie Moon, Annie Armstrong, and State Mission offerings as a class. Gayle Carswell has been a faithful teacher for many years. If you do not have a Sunday School class, the Happy Class would love for you to join them. No one is too young or old to be a part of this loving fellowship.

5th Sunday Fellowship

Make plans to join us for lunch following our morning service on July 31. You don’t want to miss this time of fellowship with other friends. Use the opportunity to invite someone who you have not seen at church in a while.

The hostess committee will provide BBQ chicken, but we are asking the congregation to bring sides and desserts.

New Study Starting Aug 7th

On August 7^th, the B.A.S.I.C Sunday school class will be starting a study in the book of Acts. The book of Acts stands apart in a world that is unsure of where to find truth or purpose. Yet, it reveals God’s plan for global redemption, His purpose for our lives, and the power He has given us to accomplish His mission.

Join us as we study through the story of the early church. Acts may have been written two thousand years ago, but God is calling us today to be a part of that story.

Dive deeper into the book of Philippians on Wednesday nights during Men’s Bible Study. They meet each Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the fellowship hall. All men are welcome to join at any time.

From our Family and Music Minister

This past week, I took Maya to her tumbling class. So that I would be productive with my time, I took my tablet to do some reading. Since it had been a few months since I used it, I got it out, put it on the charger, and decided I should turn it on to ensure there were no windows updates that were needed. Of course, with my luck, it took almost an hour and a half for the computer to update, and it didn’t have time to charge completely. But it was my fault; several programs had to update because I had neglected them for a while.

I know those who have used a computer before can relate to this situation, and due to the headache updates cause, a lot of people decide to neglect them. However, the problem is neglecting updates opens up your computer to new viruses and future issues when it doesn’t stay connected- a simple concept that we very easily neglect.

As Christians, we can be guilty of neglecting a very similar concept. We read in Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” A lot of times, people misunderstand these verses. They think God is saying to be full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; but God is saying more than that. He says those characteristics are formed in our lives when we stay connected to Jesus. Let’s look at another familiar verse to help us understand this concept.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” John 15:5

Jesus is saying that a branch needs to stay connected to the vine for fruit to grow. Good fruit will naturally come out of a branch that is connected to the vine. The branch doesn’t need to try and create the fruit in its own power. Its job is to stay connected to the vine.

Jesus is saying that we are like the branch. Our goal is to stay connected to Jesus. If we stay close to him in our everyday lives, then good fruit will come out of us. The good fruit is the gifts we read about in Galatians 5:22–23. Like a branch can’t make the fruit, we can’t simply choose to be loving, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. It’s the Holy Spirit’s job to create this fruit in our lives. Our job is to stay connected to Jesus. When we do, good gifts (fruit) flow out of us.

 We open up our computer to viruses when we neglect to keep connected. If we don’t stay connected to Jesus, we open our hearts and minds up to become like the sinful world around us.
