From Our Pastor

How wonderfully God has blessed us in Jesus Christ!  We have been cleansed of our sins.  He has saved us from Hell.  We have been reconciled unto God and adopted as His children.  Our Lord has prepared a home with Him where we will spend eternity with Him.  How He has blessed us!

What should we do now?  That is a logical and important question.  God’s wonderful salvation should mark the beginning of an entirely new way of living.

We see this in God’s instructions to Israel following His deliverance of them from Egypt.  By His great power, God had saved them from slavery and Pharaoh’s grasp.  God had stuck Egypt with a series of plagues.  The last plague was the slaying of the firstborn in every house not protected by the blood of the Passover lamb.  God personally delivered Israel by His own power.

What should the Israelites do as a result?  In Exodus 12:23-27, God gives Israel some specific instructions.  These instructions guide us in what we are to do when we have God’s salvation.

First, we are to remember God’s wonderful deliverance.  This was the point of celebrating the Passover.  Like them, we are to remember we were lost and helpless in our sins.  We are to remember that God in His grace chose to save us and make that salvation possible.  Every part of our salvation is due to the love, grace, power, and wisdom of Almighty God.  That truth should always be on our minds and hearts.

Next, we should pursue God’s plan.  God told Israel to celebrate Passover in the land He was giving them.  God’s plan was not to just get Israel out of slavery in Egypt. His plan was for them to occupy the land He had for them and become the nation He wanted them to be.

It is the same for us.  God did not save us just to keep us from going to Hell but to bring us unto Himself so that we will live for Him.  We often talk about God having a plan for our lives.  The result of salvation ought to be that we live to fulfill that plan.

Last, we must tell of God’s salvation especially to the next generation.  The Passover was to prompt questions that enable parents to tell their children about God’s wonderful deliverance.  Our Lord has called us to be His witnesses.  We need to share Christ especially to the coming generation.  One of the greatest joys of our salvation ought to be seeing someone else come to know the Lord.

Receiving God’s salvation is not the end of our spiritual experience.  It is the beginning!  May we faithfully live the life to which God has called us!
