From Our Pastor

Job 14:1 reads, ā€œMan, who is born of woman, is short-lived and full of turmoil.ā€ Boy, we all know the reality of that verse! We have all faced adversities, hardships, disappointments, and heartaches.

How do we face such times? When we read Exodus 3, we find that we need to focus on God Himself in times of turmoil and adversity. In this chapter, God is calling Moses from the backside of the desert to go lead Israel out of the cruel slavery of Egypt. Throughout the chapter, God made it clear that He needed to be the focus of both Moses and Israel.

God first reminded Moses of His greatness. In verse 6, God identified Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was reminding Moses that He was the Eternal, Sovereign, Almighty, and All-Sufficient God. God was reminding Moses that He was the unlimited God.

How we need to remember Godā€™s greatness! When we face a difficulty, we should look at God first and then look at the problem. When we focus on God, problems become smaller, confusions become clearer, and fear becomes confidence. We need to remember Godā€™s greatness.

Next, we need to remember Godā€™s love for us. He loves us with a love that cares for every issue in our lives. His love also acts upon that care. In verses 7-8, God tells Moses that He has seen Israelā€™s affliction and has come down to deliver them. Godā€™s love for them caused Him to feel compassion and to act.

Child of God, you are deeply loved by the Father. He sees every burden you are carrying. He also fully intends to act in that situation. God loves you with a love that sees your every need and acts on your behalf.

Last, we need to remember Godā€™s faithfulness. In verse 8, God promised to bring them into the land of Canaan. This was actually a repeating and confirmation of the promise He had made to Abraham. God was going to keep His promise to His people. God is faithful. We can trust Him.

What a lesson for us! We tend to focus on the problem. We need to focus on God. We can rest in Him.
