Mission Georgia Offering

Jesus showed us how to love, serve, and share. He never left people the same. Thatā€™s our calling, too…to love our neighbors…in Georgia. Good work requires hard workā€” from all of usā€”but thereā€™s nothing like watching eyes widen, hearts open, and lives change in our communities.

The September Mission Georgia offering emphasizes the collaborative efforts of Georgia Baptists to love our neighbors and serve the vulnerable. Your gifts allow us to help our churches grow in compassion for their neighbors and share the gospel while meeting needs throughout our great state.

From Our Pastor

What does the Christian life look like?  Iā€™m sure most of us know how to become a Christian.  I pray that you have become one.  But what is the ongoing Christian life like?

As we read Romans 8, we see some important elements of the Christian life.  First it is a life of freedom.  Verse 2 says, ā€œFor the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.ā€  Jesus Christ died and rose again to set us free from the penalty of sin, the power of sin (Romans 6:4) and the futility of religion (the theme of Galatians).  The believer lives a life of real freedom through Jesus Christ.

Next, the Christian life is a life of power.  The Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit Who empowers the Christian to live a life that is pleasing unto God.  Verse 11 reads, ā€œBut if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.ā€  God never intended for us to live the Christian life on our own strength.  In fact, we canā€™t.  God empowers us from within.

The Christian life is also a life of closeness with God.  He wants us to know and experience His love.  ā€œā€¦But you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, ā€˜Abba!  Father!ā€™  The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of Godā€ (verse 15b-16).  God wants us to know and experience His love in our lives.

Anticipation is also an important element of the Christian life.  Verse 23 says, ā€œAnd not only this, but also we ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.ā€  As believers, we know that God has a wonderful eternal plan for us.  We will be with Him in glorified bodies that never weaken, grow old, or become diseased.  What a future that is ahead of us!

Last, the Christian life is a life of confidence.  Verse 28 says, ā€œAnd we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those called according to His purpose.ā€  We can face every problem or circumstance (including the one you are in now) with confidence that God will work it for our good.  What a wonderful way to live!

God wants to give His children a wonderful new life in Christ.  Donā€™t fall short of experiencing that life.  Trust Christ to make it real in your every day life.
