MID-WEEK DEVOTION

From Our Pastor

What a wonderful Father we have!  No matter the type, size, or complexity of the issue we can trust Him.  We can rest in Him in every situation.

Our Lord’s feeding the four thousand in Mattew 15:32-39 clearly shows the trustworthiness of our Lord.  The lessons our Lord taught His followers that day apply to His followers every day.  As we face the problems, challenges, and issues of life, it is essential that we learn and remember these lessons.

We need to learn and remember that God knows our every need.  It was our Lord who mentioned the people’s hunger.  No one had to tell Him of the need.  He told the disciples of the need.

We can trust that our Lord knows our every need.  In fact, He knows our needs long before we do.  In Genesis 2, God saw it was not good for Adam to be alone before Adam understood He had a need.  We may have suddenly discovered that we have a problem, but God knew long ago about that problem that we just discovered.

Next, we see that God personally cares about our problems.  Our Lord said He had compassion on the multitude (verse 32).  In 1 Peter 5:7, we are told to cast all our anxiety on the Lord because He cares for us.

Believer, you are a deeply loved child of God.  Like the best of parents, He cares about every detail about His child’s life.  Yet even the best parents fall far short of His love and concern.  We can rest in such love.

This miracle also shows His power.  Our Lord fed 4000 men (probably at least 10,000 people) with 7 loaves of bread (each about the size of a hamburger bun) and a few small fish (probably pickled or dried Kinneret Sardines).  So great is our Lord’s power that verse 37 says everyone was satisfied.  Remember, these were poor people.  Very seldom was their hunger satisfied.  They would have stuffed themselves given the opportunity.  Our Lord wonderfully met their need.  In fact, there were seven large baskets of left over.  These baskets were large enough to hold a man! (Acts 9:25)

What a lesson for us!  Our problems and needs are nothing before Almighty God!  We will never face a problem, trial, need, or fear that exceeds His power.  Remember, He spoke the world into existence.  What can He not do?  He can do whatever He wills, and His will is always determined by His loving care for us.

What are you facing today?  Entrust your need to the Lord.  Just as He cared and provided for the multitude, He will for you.  You can trust Him.
