CHILDREN’S TEACHER NEEDED

As we are preparing to start Sunday school back up, we need a Children’s teacher. If you would be interested in teaching or helping, contact Rachel Flake or Jonathan. Children are essential to a growing church, and we need to do our best to teach them God’s word.

Possible Positions:

Nursery worker for Sunday School

Teachers willing to be on a quarterly rotation for (k-3rd)
or
Teacher for younger children (k-3rd)
Assistant for (k-3rd)

Non-teaching substitute (On-Call as needed)
Teacher for older children (4th and up) (This position has been filled)

Gideon Offering

First Baptist Church gave $1586.00 in a love offering this past Sunday to Gideon international. If you were unable to attend the service and would like to make a donation click here. Thank you for supporting this ministry.

MISSION OPPORTUNITY

The Turner Baptist Association will be hosting a VBS at Rock Creek Baptist Church in Marianna, Fl. The association is putting together 96 backpacks to give away to the children who participate. First Baptist has volunteered to provide bath cloths, markers, and pencil sharpeners. Please leave the items outside the church office.  We need to collect all of these items by May 30. If you have any questions, please see Vicki Brown or Jonathan.

CORPORATE PRAYER TIME

Prayer is one of the most important disciplines we should practice as a church body. Each week, we will pray for the church, community, country, and many other needs. We will have prayer time in the church sanctuary on Wednesday at 6:30 PM.

From our Family and Music Minister

This Monday, we as a Nation will celebrate Memorial Day. To some people, this may be a time to get together with family for a long weekend. For others, it may be a time to celebrate that school is finally out. I hope that as a Nation, we never take for granted the religious freedoms we have as Americans and appreciate the sacrifice of the many soldiers who lost their lives to give us those freedoms. 

As we remember the many men and women who have sacrificed for our freedom, how often do we think of those who lost their lives to spread the Word of God?  That Word we can study and learn from is a result of the sacrifice of others.  In Scripture, we see early martyrs such as Stephen, Andrew, Simon Peter, and Paul who were put to death for spreading God’s Word. There were also people like William Tyndale and John Wycliffe who lost their lives trying to equip believers with Scripture they could read. Unfortunately, dedicated Christians continue to be killed or tortured today for fulfilling the Great Commission.

Are these things we take for granted as Christians and Americans? Most of us would confidently say “No”, but when we get down to it, what do our actions reflect?  Are we taking advantage of the Bible studies that we are offered? Is it a desire of your heart to reach Ashburn for Christ?  Are you doing your part as a church member to support ministries, lead ministries, and grow ministries in the church God has given to you? 

Not only have soldiers died for our freedom and Christians been martyred for their faith, but many Christians before us have sacrificed for this church that we worship in every Sunday.  They may not have lost their lives, but they gave their lives to the service of God’s Kingdom.  They gave time to study the Word to mentor and grow the next generation of teachers and leaders.  They spent countless hours practicing music to lead the congregation in worship. Some even spent hours maintaining the building for us to have a comfortable place to worship, while some did what was most essential and prayed diligently.

Without a doubt, we are blessed. We are here today in this community and church because of the many sacrifices made by those who came before us.  Never forget and never take this for granted.  Show with your actions that you are ready to make whatever sacrifices God calls you to make for future generations to know the awesomeness of God’s Kingdom.
