From Our Pastor

.Do you ever wonder if we are drawing near to our Lord’s return? I think most of us would quickly answer “Yes!”  We see the open rebellion against God, the polluted moral conditions, and the hostility toward believers in the world around us. We think of our Lord’s words in Matthew 24:37-39:

For the coming of the Son of Man will be just
like the days of Noah. For as in those days
before the flood they were eating and drinking,
marrying, and given in marriage, until the day
that Noah entered the ark, and they did not
understand until the flood came and took them
all away; so, will the coming of the Son of Man be.

It certainly looks like these days could be of which our Lord spoke. If we are living in these days, what should we be doing? What should be our priorities in these days?

We find answers as we look at Noah’s life before the flood. Noah not only gives us an evaluation of the times but guidance for living in these times.

What priorities do we learn from Noah? First, the priority of salvation. Genesis 6:8 tells us, “But Noah found favor (grace) in the eyes of the Lord.”  Noah was a sinner like every other man (Romans 3:10, 23). He could not save himself. He could be saved only by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-10). We must trust Christ to be saved from this sinful generation (Acts 2:40).

Next, we need to live in obedience. Noah is a powerful demonstration of this priority. God commanded Noah to build an ark to prepare for the coming flood. Noah had never seen rain (Genesis 2:5-6), but he obeyed and built an ark! Think of the time and effort – remember there were no power tools. Noah walked in obedience. We must walk in obedience in these days.

Noah also shows us the importance of witnessing. 2 Peter 2:5 describes Noah as a preacher of righteousness. Noah warned his generation. We are commanded to be Christ’s witnesses (Matthew 28:19). Part of our obedience is our witness for Christ.

Last, Noah shows us the need to disciple other believers. Noah led his wife and family into the safety of the ark. When Noah led his family out of the ark, the first thing they did was worship (Genesis 8:20). Noah sought to help younger believers grow in their walk with the Lord. We too need to disciple younger believers so they can be faithful in these evil days.

These could be the days of which our Lord spoke. Either way, Noah shows us the priorities by which we should live. May we be faithful in these days.
