Join us each month for our WMU (Women's Missionary Union) meeting—a time for women of all ages to gather in fellowship, grow in our faith, and focus on missions near and far. Discover how God is working through women just like you and missionaries worldwide.

WMU meets in the Prayer Room

Our WMU is collecting items for the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home in Baxley in honor of Ms. Pat Rainey. We will deliver these items during our Fun and Fellowship trip on April 24, 2026.
If you would like to contribute, please place your items on the round table in the fellowship hall or in the prayer room.

Items Needed: 13 Gallon Tie Trash Bags, Paper Towels, Liquid Laundry Detergent, Dawn Dish Soup, Canned Chicken, and Cream of Chicken Soup.

Fun and Fellowship will be delivering the items collected by the WMU class to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home on Friday, April 24, 2026.

After the delivery, we will enjoy lunch together at Boatright’s Buffet in Alma, GA.

If you would like to join us, please sign up in Sunday School or let Jonathan know you are planning to attend.

We will be leaving at 8:30 AM.

We would love for you to come be a part of this meaningful and enjoyable day together!

We would love to have you.

We are truly blessed to have children attending on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings! As our group continues to grow, there are times when it would be helpful to divide the ages a bit more so we can better meet their needs and help each child grow.

We are looking for a few people who would be willing to help with 1st–5th grade by doing occasional pull-outs during Sunday School or assisting for part of the time on Wednesday nights. This would not be an every-week commitment—just having a few people available when needed would make a huge difference.

If you have a heart for children or feel God may be leading you to serve in this way, please get with Jonathan or Saskia.

Investing in the next generation is one of the most meaningful ways we can serve. A need like this is often how God gives us an opportunity to step in and make a difference.

From Our Family and Music Minister

Do you ever feel discouraged or even frightened in living the Christian life? So often we look at our weaknesses and think, “I can’t do it.” We look at this sinful world and think, “It is too strong.” We then pull back or try to go low profile.

We don’t have to be frightened or discouraged. God has given us all we need to be able to live for Him in this world. Our Lord made this clear in John 14–15, where He was preparing the disciples just hours before His crucifixion.

What has God given us to enable us to live for Him? He has given us Himself. Our Lord is with us through the Holy Spirit. John 14:18 says, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” In verse 20, He says He is in us. In verse 24, He speaks of making His abode with us.

What an amazing truth! God is within the individual believer. We are not on our own. He is with us. He doesn’t just send us; He goes with us.

We also have God’s strengthening. In 14:16, our Lord said, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever.” The word “Helper” conveys the idea of walking with someone to strengthen and encourage them. The idea in the verse is that, just as the Lord was with the disciples, He is now with us through His Holy Spirit. Child of God, you are not on your own. The Lord is with you.

Through the Spirit, we also have God’s guidance. In 14:26, our Lord said the Spirit “…will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” That means He will guide us. He will give us the truth, the understanding, and the insight we need. We don’t have to try to bump our way through situations. The Holy Spirit will guide us.

We also have God’s enablement. In John 15:1–6, our Lord said we would bear much fruit if we abided in Him. We don’t have to produce results. God produces the results as we allow Him to live through us. God Himself enables us to accomplish everything He desires.
What a difference this makes in our lives! We can live and serve the Lord in confidence. He provides everything we need.

From Our Family and Music Minister

Growing up, my dad wasn’t much into sports. I don’t remember him ever sitting down to watch a game on TV. But for some reason, when we were kids, we went to all of Tiftarea’s home football games. At the time, I didn’t realize how big a deal it was, but Tiftarea had made it to the state championship.

Like most kids, I spent the majority of my time behind the stands playing with friends, only coming up front when I needed money for the concession stand. As the game was coming to a close, Tiftarea was behind, and it looked like we were going to lose. It was such a sure thing that my dad came to get me, and we started walking back to the car early to beat the traffic.

But then something unexpected happened.

As we were leaving, my dad, along with many others who had already started walking out, suddenly turned around and headed back toward the stadium. In just the last few minutes of the game, everything changed. While we were behind the stands, the team had gone from losing to winning. That night, Tiftarea won the state championship. Many fans almost missed the win because they thought the game was already over; they had given up.

As we reflect on Easter, it’s hard not to see a similar moment in the story of Jesus.

After His crucifixion, it seemed like everything was lost. The women were preparing spices to anoint His body. The disciples were scattered, afraid, and hiding behind locked doors. Peter, who had once boldly followed Jesus, had denied Him and was left wrestling with guilt.

Rome believed it had silenced another potential uprising. The Jewish leaders felt they had secured their position and removed the one they saw as a threat. From every human perspective, the story was over.

But God was not finished.

Three days later, everything changed.

The tomb was empty. Jesus had risen just as He said He would. What looked like defeat was actually victory. What seemed like the end was only the beginning. Sorrow was turned into joy, fear into boldness, and despair into unshakable hope.

Those same disciples who had hidden in fear would soon stand and proclaim the risen Christ with courage. The women who came in mourning became the first witnesses of the resurrection. And the message that seemed to be silenced began to spread to the ends of the earth.

How often do we do the same?

We walk away too early. We assume God is finished. We believe the situation is too far gone.

But Easter reminds us that God is still at work, even when it looks like all hope is lost.
The story isn’t over.

Victory may be closer than we think.

From Our Pastor

This Sunday is Palm Sunday. It is the day we remember our Lord riding into Jerusalem for His final week of ministry on this earth. Matthew 21:7–9 says, “…(they) brought the donkey … laid their coats … and He sat upon them … the crowd … were cutting branches from the trees … shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!’”

What an amazing and exciting event! But why is it significant? How does it impact us?
Think about what John was inspired to write in 1 John 4:9–10: “By this, the love of God was manifested in us, that God sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

These verses tell us that the Lord Jesus went to Jerusalem because of His and the Father’s love for us. In spite of our sins and sinfulness, God loves us. Christ rode into Jerusalem because of His love for us.

John also tells us the ultimate purpose of the Lord Jesus riding into Jerusalem: He was to be the propitiation for our sins. Propitiation means the satisfaction of divine wrath. We sinners (every one of us) are under God’s condemnation and facing eternal judgment. The Lord Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem so that all of God’s judgment and wrath would be poured out upon Him. He took the judgment we deserve.

These verses also tell us the result of the Lord entering Jerusalem to be the propitiation for our sins. Verse 9 says, “…so that we might live through Him.” Jesus became our propitiation to give us spiritual life. Through Him, we are born again into real life and a relationship with God. It also means we will spend eternity with our Lord in the home He has prepared for His children. He entered Jerusalem to give us life.

What a wonderful Lord we have! As we remember the elements of His entrance into Jerusalem, may we remember He entered to die in our place to give us life. May our hearts be filled with love and adoration

From Our Family and Music Minister

In small towns, reputation matters. People know your name, your family, and most of the time what you had for breakfast. While that can be a blessing at times, it can also create an inner pressure for someone to look right, act right, and always have things together. Without even realizing it, we can begin to live not for what is right, but for how we are perceived.

That’s where pride often takes hold.

Pride isn’t always loud or obvious. It doesn’t always show up as arrogance. Many times, it can be seen as the pressure we put on ourselves. The constant need to perform, to succeed, and to avoid looking like a failure in the world's eyes at all costs. It whispers things like, “Don’t mess up,” or “What will people think?” Over time, that pressure begins to shape how we live. We stop living freely and worry more about maintaining an image than walking in truth.

The Bible gives us a clear example of this in the life of King Saul. After disobeying God, Saul admitted his sin, but then said something concerning: “I have sinned… yet honor me now before the elders of my people” (1 Samuel 15:30). Even in his confession, Saul was more concerned about how he appeared to others than about being right with God. His focus was not on the restoration from God, but on his reputation with others.

That is what pride does. It shifts our focus from God’s approval to people’s approval.
And that kind of living is exhausting.

When we are constantly trying to meet expectations, we will eventually wear ourselves down. We begin to fear failure, not because we want to honor God, but because we don’t want to look bad. We carry a weight we were never meant to carry.

But Scripture offers us a better way.

Galatians 1:10 reminds us, “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? … If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” We were never called to impress the world; as believers, we were called to follow Jesus.

That means we don’t have to be perfect; we are called to be faithful. We don’t have to prove ourselves; we are called to trust Him. We don’t have to live under constant pressure; we are offered the invitation to live under grace.

When we release pride, we also release the pressure that comes with it. We are free to be honest about our weaknesses, to grow through our failures, and to walk in obedience without fear of how others may judge us.

We must honestly ask ourselves: Are we living to impress people, or to please God?

From Our Pastor

In Philippians 4:5b, we read, “…The Lord is near.” God is not “out there somewhere.” He is close to us. The Father is always watching over us. The Son is always interceding for us. The Holy Spirit is within us to strengthen, encourage, guide, and intercede for us. God is near His people.

What real difference does that make in our lives? Is all that merely theory, or does it impact us? What concrete differences does the reality of God’s nearness make in our lives? The Apostle Paul answers that question in verses 4-9. He shows us the wonderful ways God’s presence makes a difference in our everyday lives.

We first see that the Lord’s nearness enables us to live in joy. Verse 4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!” That doesn’t mean rejoice because we have hard, painful experiences. It does mean that we can rejoice in hard, painful circumstances because God is in control, has an ultimate good plan for us, and is using the situation to grow and mature us. God’s nearness enables us to rejoice even in difficult situations.

God’s nearness enables us to keep ourselves under control. Verse 5 says, “Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.” When we remember that the Lord is with us in every situation, we can trust Him to enable us to handle those situations in a godly manner. We don’t have to “blow up,” lash out, or attack. We can be calm in the reality of His presence.

Recognizing God’s nearness enables us to trust Him. Verses 6-7 say, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” That experience requires a God who is near. That is what we have!

God’s nearness also leads us to a life of excellence. In verse 8, we see that this impacts our thinking. We will put our minds on things of value and turn away from the worthless. Verse 9 speaks of our conduct. Remembering God’s nearness impacts our every thought and action. We begin to live a life of excellence.

Child of God, the Lord is near. Let the reality of His presence strengthen, guide, and fill your life.

From Our Family and Music Minister

As I’ve been putting together devotions for our Small Town Truths series, I’ve found myself thinking about the stories my dad used to tell. Now, you had to be careful with some of his stories. My dad had a way of placing himself in historical events that clearly happened before he was born. When I learned in school about when the Civil War actually took place, I realized he probably didn’t serve in it as he claimed. So, some of his “history lessons” required a little discernment. But there was one story he told that several people who were actually there confirmed.

It happened at a graveside service out at Bethel Church. The burial that day was taking place near the edge of the cemetery, and just beyond the fence was a cow pasture. And in that pasture was a bull. During the service, while prayers were being prayed and tears quietly wiped away, the bull would lower his head and charge toward the fence. He would run hard and fast, stopping just a few feet short. The first time it happened, people nervously shifted in the seat. The second time, they stepped back together almost in unison. By the third charge, it had become as beautiful as a choir singing in unison. The bull would run, the congregation would scoot, the bull would stop, and everyone would slowly and respectfully return to their place as if nothing had happened. No one said a word. Everyone was trying to remain respectful of the situation.

After the service, when I came up to help fill in the grave, people didn’t say a thing about the man who was buried; all they talked about was the bull. Isn’t that how life happens? At important moments in our lives, especially when we are trying to grow as believers, something always seems to be charging in. Distraction. Fear. Awkwardness. Worry. Sometimes, even humor at the most unexpected time. We gather for worship, and our minds wander. We bow our heads to pray, and something pulls at our attention. We face serious moments, and something unexpected shakes us.

The fence that held the bull back was worn and weathered, the kind of fence that didn’t look strong enough to keep a large dog from slipping through. Yet every time that bull lowered his head and ran full speed toward it, something unseen stopped him in his tracks. The fence may not have looked impressive, but it was stronger than it appeared.

That’s the lesson. The bull could charge all he wanted, but he couldn’t cross the fence. He could stir nerves. He could disrupt comfort. He could make people shuffle their feet. But he couldn’t break through. Hebrews 12:28 reminds us that we have received “a kingdom that cannot be shaken.” The world may shake us. Circumstances may rattle us. Distractions may charge at us. But what God has secured for us in Christ stands firm. Death was present that day at Bethel. Grief was real. But so was hope. As believers, we can have hope in a savior who is stronger than anything that charges the fence.

From Our Pastor

Have you noticed the sunrises the past couple of weeks? They have been beautiful! I love this time of year. My morning walks are glorious shows that begin in darkness and end with the sun shining over the horizon.

It is so appropriate that I am in the Gospel of John in my quiet time. The sunrise illustrates what our Lord said about Himself. In John 8:12, we read: “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.’”

Think of how light describes our Lord. Light shows purity. Picture a brilliant sunrise on a crystal-clear, cold winter morning — that is but a small illustration of the nature of God. 1 John 1:5 says, “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” Our Lord is pure and holy in His person and all His acts. There is no dark spot anywhere in Him. We can trust Him.

Light also reveals. I can walk a lot faster after the sun begins to light the horizon—I can see where I am going. God, as light, reveals our condition. Jesus reveals how far short of the Father we have fallen.

Fortunately, light (especially sunlight) also purifies. Who hasn’t put shoes or clothing in the sun for it to cleanse them? Jesus, as the Light of the World, took our sin upon Himself at Calvary to make us clean before the Father.

Last, light guides. Our Lord said these words during the Feast of Booths. The feast reminded the Jews of how God guided and provided for them through the wilderness. God led them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21). Our Lord was saying He will guide us just as the cloud and fire guided ancient Israel. He is our Light for life. If we follow Him, we will not walk in darkness.

Yes, sunrises are beautiful—but our God is even better. He will cleanse and guide us if we walk with Him.

From Our Family And Music Minister

There is something powerful about a small town. Not because it is quiet or simple, but because people matter there. In a small town, you notice when someone is missing. People show up when something goes wrong. They also celebrate together as well as caring for each other during hard times. Community is not just a word; it is a way of life. Whether we realize it or not, every church is like a “town.”

As a church, we are shaping the culture, but what kind of culture are we shaping? Are we becoming a place where faith is stronger than fear, where grace is stronger than criticism, where people are known rather than just counted, where families can grow together rather than drift apart?

Scripture reminds us that spiritual growth was never meant to happen in isolation. In Acts 2:42–47, we are given a picture of the early church: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Notice the word used in the passage, “devoted.” They were committed not only to learning but also to doing life with one another. The passage continues, “All who believed were together and had all things in common… And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes… they received their food with glad and generous hearts.” Each believer had a personal faith, but it was never a private faith. It was shared, lived out, and strengthened in community.

Community shapes us more than we realize. We become like the atmosphere around us. Proverbs 13:20 reminds us, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise.” Fear and anxiety spread when we allow it, but so does a steady trust in God. In the same way, encouragement and faith spread when we gather regularly around a supportive community that believes in prayer and encourages one another.

That is part of the reason for our Wednesday night Family Night study, Small Town Truths. While we are enjoying some lighthearted moments together, the deeper goal is building a community where God’s word shapes our homes and relationships. It is not about simply attending church; it is about belonging to one another and growing together. The kind of town we are becoming does not happen by accident. It happens when we choose to show up, to encourage, to pray together, to speak truth with love, and to be an example of steady faith in uncertain times.

In a world that often feels divided and hurried, what if our church became known as a place of steadiness? A place where families are strengthened, people are growing, and Christ is clearly reflected in how we care for one another. That kind of community benefits not just us but also the generations who grow with us. May we always see the importance of creating a loving community with the heart of Jesus.

Just a reminder that the Turner Baptist Women’s Spring Meeting (men are invited, too) will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Inaha Baptist Church
(271 W. Inaha Rd., Sycamore, GA).

Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Our church is responsible for bringing fruit salad, so please plan to help with this if you are able. Bring your assigned salad or dessert and join us for a meaningful time of fellowship and encouragement as we learn where God is working.

We will hear from two speakers that evening: a special missionary and Terry Bennett, Executive Director of The Bridge of Tiftarea. The Bridge includes Tiftarea House of Hope (a shelter for homeless women), the Training Center (job skills training), and the Bird’s Nest thrift store, which helps support the ministry.

The evening offering will be given to The Bridge of Tiftarea.

How unsettled is this world! It does not matter if you are looking at political, economic, social, or scientific issues; man’s society is crumbling before our eyes. No wonder so many people go to such great lengths to minimize, escape, or end their pain and fear. Who can blame them when all they see is fear and uncertainty?

However, as believers, we have been delivered from such living. Our Lord is with us, and His presence changes everything. In Isaiah 52:12, He says, “But you will not go out in haste, nor will you go as fugitives; for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”

Think about why the believer does not have to live given over to fear and uncertainty. The middle of the verse says, “…the Lord will go before you….” That refers to God’s leadership. He goes before us and clears the path. He shows us the way to go and removes every obstacle. It is the same thought as Proverbs 3:6, where it says, “…He will make your paths straight.” As the late Dr. Adrian Rogers expressed, “God will bulldoze a path for you.” God leads us and clears the path before us.

The verse ends by saying, “…and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” That speaks of God protecting us from any unexpected dangers or ambushes. It also speaks of God making sure no one is left behind. No one can snatch us out of God’s protection, and we will never fall through the cracks.
The verse also tells the wonderful difference such truth makes: “But you will not go out in haste….” That means we don’t have to live in a panic-stricken rush. We can live in a sense of calm and peace.

We can also live in peaceful security. The verse continues, “…nor will you go as fugitives….” We don’t have to live in fear like we are running for our lives from a war zone or disaster area. We can live in the security of our loving Lord.

Yes, these are unsettled and uncertain times. But we have a God in whom we can trust. In Him, we have peace, security, and confidence.

From Our Family and Music Minister

If you were unable to attend the recent Turner Baptist on Mission Celebration, you truly missed a blessing. It was more than just a time for us to gather; it was a powerful reminder of what it means to live a life committed to Christ and His mission.

While it was encouraging to hear about the different ministries and mission fields represented, I hope everyone who attended came away with something deeper than just information. What stood out most was not simply what these missionaries are doing, but who they are. They are men and women who have chosen to make missions a lifelong commitment, not just a short-term project.

One of the most inspiring parts of the celebration was hearing how some of these missionaries did not begin their mission work early in life. Some were called later, after careers, families, and years of faithful service in their local churches. Their stories reminded us that God is never finished with us. As Philippians 1:6 reminds us, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

We were reminded that there is no age limit on obedience. You are never too young to be a bold witness for Christ, and you are never too old to answer His call. Whether through going, giving, praying, teaching, encouraging, or serving right where we are, every believer has a role in God’s mission. Scripture tells us, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).

The celebration challenged us to examine our own lives. Are we viewing missions as something “others” do, or are we living every day as ambassadors for Christ? The speakers made it clear that following Jesus is not about convenience; it is about commitment. As Paul writes, “We are ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

My prayer is that this event was not just a good memory, but a turning point for many of us. May it inspire us to live with greater purpose, deeper faith, and a renewed passion to share Christ wherever He leads.

What a difference Christ makes in the everyday life of His people. God not only saves the Christian from wrath and judgment, but He also changes the Christian’s life from the inside. In fact, only the Christian really lives!

What are some of the changes that Christ makes in the believer? We find some of these changes in Philippians 1:1–11. Even a quick glance at this passage shows the wonderful experience of the Christian life.

We first see the difference of grace. We usually think of grace only in bringing us to faith. Yet verse 2 makes it clear that God is giving us His grace every day. Our ongoing experience as believers is the receiving of God’s goodness that we have not earned, do not deserve, and for which we can never repay Him. Every day, God wants to pour out His goodness upon us. What a life!

Verse 2 also makes it clear that God wants to fill our lives with His peace. That means more than the absence of fighting. Peace means an inner wholeness and wellness. It is a God-made calmness of heart. This is real and defies all comprehension (Philippians 4:6–7). In this chaotic world, God gives His people peace. What a way to live!

Last, God gives us the confidence that He is making us more like Christ (verse 6). I doubt any of us are really satisfied with ourselves. We see weaknesses and faults. We don’t have to give up in despair. God is working on us right now. This very moment, Christ is making us more like Himself (Romans 8:29). Christ is making us better. What a way to live!

Child of God, think about the wonderful life God wants to give you. Don’t miss out on experiencing it. Let God pour out His goodness on you.

In the late 1500s, Jesuit missionaries began traveling to China with a different approach to sharing the gospel. They didn’t come just to preach; they came to learn the culture, the science, and how people thought. One of the most well-known was Matteo Ricci.

The concept of measuring time was not new to the Chinese people. For centuries, the Chinese had used sundials, water clocks, and large astronomical instruments to track time and seasons. What was new were the European mechanical clocks that the Jesuits brought with them. They brought small, precise timepieces powered by gears and springs instead of flowing water. These clocks impressed Chinese scholars and officials, not because China lacked timekeeping, but because the technology was different and precise.

These gifts helped the Jesuits build relationships with Chinese leaders and gain access to influential circles. Their knowledge of astronomy, mathematics, and engineering showed respect for Chinese culture and demonstrated genuine care for learning. And through those relationships, they were given opportunities to share the message of Christ.
The clocks didn’t convert anyone on their own, but they opened doors.

This approach closely mirrors what we see in Acts 17, when the Apostle Paul visited Athens. Paul did not begin by criticizing their beliefs. Instead, he observed their culture, acknowledged their religious devotion, and even referenced their altar “To an Unknown God.”

Paul said: “What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.”
(Acts 17:23, ESV)

Paul met people where they were. He spoke their language, understood their worldview, and used something familiar to introduce them to the gospel. In the same way, the Jesuit missionaries didn’t introduce the idea of time to China, but they offered a clearer way to measure it, which helped open hearts and conversations.

Many people are not rejecting God because they have never heard of Him. They are rejecting Him because they think they already understand Him. But when we as disciples share the unchanging gospel with wisdom, humility, and cultural awareness, it can seem different to a non-believer. Almost like seeing an old teacher through a clearer lens.

Our mission is not to water down the message. It is to communicate in a way that the listener can understand. We can’t assume words like sacrifice, justification, or sanctification can be understood by a non-believer.

Just as Paul used Greek culture to point people to Christ, and the Jesuits used science to build bridges in China, we are called to present the gospel in ways that speak clearly to the world around us without compromising the truth.

The message never changes. But the way we share it can make all the difference.

We are often tempted to use the values, ideas, and means of those who don’t know God. We often put our confidence in those things rather than in God. We often don’t really trust God to meet our needs.

We are not the first to make this mistake. Judah did the same thing in the Old Testament. In Isaiah 31, Judah was looking to Egypt to protect them from Assyria.

Judah put their hope and trust in the wrong place. Verse 1 says, “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord!”

How foolish of Judah! How foolish of us to trust someone or something other than the Lord! Verse 3 says, “Now the Egyptians are men and not God, and their horses are flesh and not spirit; so, the Lord will stretch out His hand, and he who helps will stumble, and he who is helped will fall, and all of them will come to an end together.: Help from some source other than God never helps. Whatever we trust instead of God will collapse.
What about God? Is He worthy of our trust? Can He really help us? Think about what the rest of this chapter says about God.

Verse 2 says God is wise. That means God knows the best answer in every situation. He knows the best way to bring it about. He knows the best timing to bring it about. We can trust God because He is wise.

God is also faithful. Verse 2 says He does not retract His words. God is faithful to His Word. This is true in terms of carrying out His warnings or fulfilling His promises. God is faithful.

God is also victorious. Verse 4 compares Him to a strong lion who kills his prey and is fearless of hunters. Nothing and no one can resist God. We will never face a problem that God cannot handle.

Last, God is protective of His people (verse 5). Believer, you are deeply and personally loved by God. He is interested in every part of your life. He is working in every part of your life right now. You can trust Him.

What a wonderful God we have. He is our great and constant help. We can trust Him in every situation.

From Our Family Minister

As a new year begins, many of us are setting goals for what we hope to accomplish in the months ahead. If you are anything like me, you may still be working on the list you made last year or have completely forgotten it. As we set new goals, it is worth pausing to ask an important question: Are we keeping God at the center of them? As Christians, we can be guilty of compartmentalizing our lives, especially when it comes to worship, work, and recreation. We give God our full attention on Sunday, but during the rest of the week, He can easily be treated as a passenger. Someone who is present, yet pushed into the background while the noise of life drowns out His voice.

Scripture reminds us that there should be no such division. Jesus is Lord overall. When we go to work each day, our jobs are not separate from our faith; they are another opportunity to worship God. Everything we do and everywhere we go falls under His authority. Colossians 3:23–24 teaches us, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men… You are serving the Lord Christ.” Living out our Christian values at work is not only an act of obedience but also deeply rewarding.

One of the most important ways to live out our faith in the workplace is by beginning each day grounded in God’s Word and prayer. Before we take on our responsibilities, we must anchor our hearts in Christ. The enemy is always ready to distract, discourage, or divide our attention, but starting our day with God helps us remain focused and spiritually prepared.

Throughout the workday, we should also be mindful that we represent Christ in how we treat others. Respect, kindness, and integrity should mark our interactions, regardless of the beliefs of those around us. We have the opportunity to be a source of encouragement and hope. Being someone who offers help, celebrates successes, and supports coworkers during difficult seasons. A Christ-centered attitude can have a powerful impact.

Our faith should also be evident in our work ethic. Doing our work with excellence reflects our desire to honor God in every task He places before us. The way we respect authority, respond to instruction, and carry out our responsibilities speaks volumes about our character and our testimony.

As followers of Christ, we are called to live differently. When others encounter us at work, do they see something that draws them closer to Christ? Living out our faith in the workplace is not something we completely accomplish, but something we continually work at. There will be challenges and setbacks along the way, but when we commit to glorifying God in all we do, He can use us to make a lasting impact right where we are.

From Our Pastor

As we live our lives, we face so many difficulties, heartaches, and dangers. We often face circumstances that are far greater than our wisdom and strength. It would be easy to be swept away in such times.

But in our Lord, we find all we need for every situation. In Psalm 145, David praises the Lord for who He is and what He does. As David ended the psalm in verses 17-21, He speaks of our Lord’s nature. The characteristics David describes remind us of why we can trust our Lord – no matter what we may be facing.

First, we are reminded that God is good (verse 17). David points out that God is righteous. That means we can always trust God to do what is right. David coupled that with God’s kindness. Whatever God does in our lives, He always does so with perfect kindness – even if we do not understand it. Our God is good. He is righteous and kind. We can trust Him in every situation.

Next, Daniel reminds us that God is near (verse 18). Our God is not merely “up there”. He is here. He is with you. He is not merely watching you go through your situation. He is with you. You are not and will never be alone. Our God is with you.

David then reminded us that God is faithful (v. 19). God always hears His children’s prayers. God always moves to work in His children’s lives. We can face every situation in confidence because we have a God we can trust.

Last, God is personally involved in our situation. Verse 20 says, “The Lord keeps all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.” God is not merely a spectator of our lives. He doesn’t just give us a grade when our life is over. He is with us and is personally involved. He is working in your life this very minute. No wonder we can trust Him even in the midst of a problem.

Are you in the midst of a problem or adversity? Follow David’s example and look upon the Lord. You can trust Him. He will not fail you.

From Our Family and Music Minister

Looking back on past Christmases, I think about all the things I just had to have. I waited in anticipation for months for some of them, and then when I finally got them, I wouldn’t stop playing with them… at least for a few weeks. A few gifts lasted longer, but most never lived up to the hype I had built up. Honestly, looking back, I don’t know if there’s anything I got for Christmas that I still even have.

That’s not to say those gifts were bad. It’s just that even the best things wear out, break, get outgrown, or get replaced. Batteries die. Screens crack. Trends fade. What felt like “everything” at the moment eventually becomes something we barely remember.
Christmas Eve reminds us that God gave a different kind of gift.

The Bible says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17). And the greatest gift God ever gave wasn’t wrapped in paper, it came wrapped in humility. “For unto you is born this day… a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). Jesus is the gift that doesn’t break.

He doesn’t fade when the season ends. He doesn’t disappoint like our expectations sometimes do. He doesn’t get outdated, outgrown, or left behind. His peace can still calm anxiety. His presence still draws near when we feel lonely. His mercy still holds when we’ve made a mess of things. His love still reaches for us when we feel unworthy.

We may not have many of the gifts we opened years ago—but if we have Christ, we have what lasts.

So, on this Christmas Eve, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let’s remember: the best gift isn’t found under the tree. The best gift is the One who came for us, to us, and still comes near to us.

From Our Pastor

Wow! Can you believe it is almost Christmas? In just a few days, all the buying, hiding, wrapping, exchanging, cooking, cleaning, and gathering will be over. It is always hectic, but it is always fun!

While we go through all these festivities, I hope that we remember the reason for the holiday. I hope that we remember the real reason for the celebration.

While it may seem to be a strange verse for Christmas, John 3:16 clearly shows us the beautiful message of Christmas. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” What a beautiful and powerful summary of the Christmas message!

The verse first reminds us of the giver. God is the One who has given this great gift. The great, sovereign, holy, and perfect God is the One who has freely chosen to give. That God is the giver makes Christmas amazing.

To whom God chose to give His gift makes Christmas even more amazing. Yes, He gave to us. But think about who and what we are. The verse says that those who receive the gift shall not perish. That means without receiving the gift, we will perish. The consequences of our sinfulness and our sins could not be more plainly stated.

We also see the cost of God’s gift to us sinners. “Gave” is interpreted by verse 15, where our Lord spoke of Himself being lifted up – a clear reference to crucifixion. The cost of God’s gift is sending His Son to die in our place and rise again.

The verse also shows the effect of God’s gift. The verse ends with the promise of eternal life. That means a spiritual life that never ends. Through Jesus Christ, we have life within that never ends, and we will spend forever with Him.

What a wonderful gift! Have you personally received it? The verse clearly tells us how – by believing in Him. That means we personally put our trust and dependence on Him and Him alone. It is only then that we receive God’s wonderful gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.

As you go through all the activities of this holiday, don’t miss experiencing the real meaning. Put your trust in Christ. Let God give you eternal life.

From Our Family and Music Minister

In my junior year of high school, I was walking down the hallway when the school counselor stuck her head out of her office and asked if I would like to attend a leadership conference. After mentioning it to my parents, they encouraged me to go, so I signed up.

A few weeks before the weekend conference, as more information started coming in, I realized this might not be my kind of thing. I was a good student in terms of being respectful to teachers and showing up on time, but academically, I often felt like a snowman in South Georgia. The conference seemed packed with classes, projects, and expectations, and I knew I would be well outside my comfort zone.

Even though I had my doubts, my parents wouldn’t let me back out, so I went. As soon as I arrived, my fears seemed confirmed. At the opening meeting, I began talking with other students and discovered that many of them had competed through essays and speeches just to represent their schools. I remember thinking, What had I gotten myself into? This did not feel like a place where I belonged, and I couldn’t understand why my school counselor had chosen me.

I imagine the shepherds may have felt the same way on the night Christ was born. When the angel appeared and announced that the long-awaited Messiah had finally come—after more than 400 years of silence from God—the shepherds could have easily asked, “Why us?” Yet God chose them. These men were considered untrustworthy and were not even allowed to serve as witnesses in Israel’s courts, yet they became the very first witnesses of Christ’s birth (Luke 2:8–11).

Mary and Joseph likely felt similar doubts. There was nothing remarkable about them by worldly standards. They came from an obscure town and held no special status or influence. Still, God chose them to play a central role in His redemptive plan.

God has a long history of calling unlikely people to do extraordinary things for His glory. He doesn’t measure ability the way we do. Instead, He looks at the heart. As 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

As the conference went on, I realized my counselor knew exactly what she was doing when she invited me. I soaked in everything—from listening to a man who helped lead a team inventing equipment for the space shuttle to learning from a communications engineer who explained how the internet works. This was learning that clicked for me—hands-on, engaging, and centered on things that sparked my curiosity.

So, if you ever feel unqualified or out of place, remember that God often chooses the unlikely to accomplish His purposes. Just as my counselor chose me, God chose the shepherds, Mary, Joseph—and even a sinner like me—to carry His message and point others to Him.

Movie Night – Why the Nativity?

Join us on Sunday, December 7th, at 4:00 PM in the sanctuary as we watch Why the Nativity?, a powerful film by Dr. David Jeremiah that brings the Christmas story to life. Through beautiful dramatization and biblical insight, the movie explores the deeper meaning behind Jesus’ birth and answers some of the most important questions surrounding the Nativity.

This is a wonderful opportunity to invite family and friends. The movie will end by 5:30 PM, giving everyone time to get home before dark. A bus will also be available for those who prefer not to drive at night—please let Jonathan know if you need a ride.

From Our Pastor

How is your walk with the Lord? Have you grown cold or drifted from Him? Have you let sin take root and spread?

We don’t have to stay in that condition. We can return to the Lord and experience the blessings of God’s closeness again. God’s Word has many examples of God’s people experiencing revival and renewal.

One such revival took place during the reign of King Josiah in 2 Kings 22-23. After the reign of two sinful kings, Josiah led the nation back to experiencing the power and goodness of God.
What do we learn from Josiah? First, we see the need for personal responsibility. In 22:2, we find that Josiah sought the Lord and walked with Him. He had to make this decision himself. No one else could make it for Him.

It is the same for us. Philippians 2:12 tells us to work out our salvation. This does not mean that our salvation is by work. Instead, it means that we must take responsibility for our Christian life. We will only be revived and renewed when we take responsibility for the quality of our Christian walk.

Next, we see Josiah cleanse the temple. What a picture for us! 1 Corinthians 3:16 makes it clear that we believers are temples of God because the Holy Spirit lives within us. Just as Josiah needed to cleanse the temple, we must cleanse our lives through confession and prayer.

We must also return to God’s Word. When the law of the Lord was found and read to the king, he led the nation into obeying it. We must do the same. There can be no revival or renewal without returning to God’s Word.

Last, we need to remove all idols. Anything that rivals God for our devotion or obedience must be removed. Josiah was not satisfied with just cleansing the temple. He cleansed the nation of its idols. We must not be satisfied until there is nothing connected to our lives that does not obey and honor God.

Have you grown cold in your walk with God? You don’t have to stay in that condition. Follow Josiah’s example and experience God’s power and nearness in your life again.

Thanksgiving gives us a chance to slow down and remember God’s goodness. We thank Him for family around the table, the food we enjoy, and the blessings that fill our daily lives. But Scripture reminds us that there is an even deeper gratitude believers carry. A gratitude for what God has done in our lives and in our hearts. Psalm 66:16 gives believers a picture of thankfulness that naturally becomes testimony. “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16, ESV). The writer doesn’t just reflect on God’s goodness privately; he invites others to “come and hear” what the Lord has done.

That same message should speak to us today. When we remember who we were before Christ, we shouldn’t be able to contain our excitement; it should naturally overflow from us. God didn’t just improve our lives; He rescued us, redeemed us, and brought us into His family. And when we are truly thankful for that kind of grace, it shows in our daily lives. It shapes our conversations, our priorities, and the way we care about the lives of the people around us.

As Thanksgiving approaches, many of us will sit with family members, coworkers, or friends who don’t yet know the hope we have in Christ. What better time to let our gratitude move beyond personal belief and into a chance to witness? We should desire to speak about the One who changed our lives and be willing to do so.

This week, ask yourself: Who needs to hear what God has done for my soul? Gratitude is more than words spoken around a dinner table; it is a life that points others to Jesus. May our thanksgiving not end with the holiday. May our thanksgiving be a testimony that draws others to the Savior we are so grateful for.

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I don’t mean the location, guests, or menu. Are you prepared to give thanks to the Lord? Many times, we get so focused on the elements of the holiday that we lose sight of expressing thanks.

When we read Deuteronomy 26:1-11, we are reminded of some key reasons to give thanks to the Lord. In these verses, God commanded His people to bring an offering of first fruits from their harvest. The Lord also instructed His people on what to say when presenting this offering. In this statement, we are reminded of the reasons we have for giving thanks to the Lord.

We are first reminded of God’s love for us. He does not love us because we are good, lovable, or have anything to offer Him. He loves us because He has graciously chosen to love us. The Israelites were to remember that their family heritage was that of wandering Arameans (v. 5). This meant they had nothing to offer God. He loved them despite them, not because of them. Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” How we ought to thank God for loving us!

Next, they were to speak of God’s salvation. Verses 5b-8 look back on the Exodus where God delivered His people from the bondage of Egypt. As amazing as that deliverance was, it pictured the even greater deliverance from sin and judgment that we have through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-10 makes it clear that this salvation was only by God’s grace from beginning to end. God’s salvation should cause us to give thanks to God.

God then had the Israelites remember His provision (verse 9). God brought Israel through the wilderness to a land flowing with milk and honey. He had provided for their every need. He was still providing for their needs.

It is the same for us. He has provided for all our needs. He has promised to provide for our every current and future need (Philippians 4:19). How we should give thanks to Him.
Last, we see God’s overwhelming goodness (verses 10-11). Haven’t we experienced the same? Like David, our cup overflows (Psalm 23:5b). We have been so wondrously blessed by God. Thanksgiving should be the ongoing attitude of our hearts, not just one day on the calendar.

I hope we all enjoy the Thanksgiving festivities. They are a lot of fun. But may we truly give thanks.

The Christmas Post Office will open on Sunday morning, November 30th. To help us sort and distribute everything on time, we ask that all cards be turned in by Sunday, December 14th.

If you would like to send Christmas cards to church members here in Ashburn, simply drop them off, and we will take care of the sorting and delivery for you. Collection boxes will be located throughout the church, and any donations to the Post Office will go toward covering shipping costs and supplies for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.

November gives us two reminders that belong together: gratitude and service. With us just celebrating Veterans Day on Tuesday and Thanksgiving just around the corner, we have an opportunity to see how both holidays can point our hearts in the same direction.

Veterans Day honors the men and women who stepped forward to serve, which came at a significant personal cost to most. Their willingness to sacrifice comforts, time with family, and, in many cases, their own safety stands as a living example of putting others first. Their example reminds us that gratitude is never meant to be passive. True thanksgiving naturally overflows into action.

Thanksgiving calls us to pause and remember the goodness of God in our lives. But Scripture invites us to take it a step further. “Through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13). A thankful heart becomes a serving heart. When we recognize how much God has given us, it stirs us to bless others in His name.

One meaningful way to let gratitude lead to action is through servant evangelism. Servant evangelism involves simple acts of kindness performed in Jesus’ name to open doors for the gospel. A warm meal delivered to a struggling family, a note of appreciation to a veteran, a small act of help for someone in need. All of these gestures create opportunities to share that we serve because Christ served us first. Most of the time, a simple act of kindness softens a heart long before a conversation begins.

As a church family, this season gives us several ways to practice gratitude, service, and gospel witness together:

Pray intentionally for veterans and military families, especially those facing health struggles or loneliness.
Deliver a small gift or note of appreciation to a veteran, adding a brief word about God’s love.
Support a local family in need with groceries or a Thanksgiving meal, sharing that the gift is given because Christ has blessed you.
Look for quiet acts of kindness—a visit, a phone call, or help with a task—along with a simple invitation to church or a short testimony of God’s faithfulness.

This is a season to remember that gratitude is more than a feeling; it is a way of life. As we thank God for His blessings and honor those who have served our country, may our church be known for thankful hearts, serving hands, and a willingness to share the hope of Christ with others.

From Our Pastor

This Sunday is the Harvest Banquet. This is a special day in our fellowship. We have a special speaker, a great meal, and a wonderful time of fellowship together.
Why do we have a Harvest Banquet? There is an obvious reason for receiving an offering above and beyond our normal gifts. This offering is a huge help for us as we go through the church year.

But I hope we have a greater desire for the Harvest Banquet. I hope it is a time where we think of all of God’s blessings upon us and give as an expression of thanksgiving, love, and adoration. I hope we approach the Harvest Banquet with the attitude of the psalmist in Psalm 105. The psalmist wrote, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples.”

For what was the psalmist so thankful? The same reasons we should be thankful! First, there is God’s grace. In verse 6, he speaks of God’s choice of Israel. This was purely of God’s grace. Israel had nothing to offer God – and neither do we. God’s wonderful salvation of sinners like us is purely of His grace. If we ponder the reality of that, our hearts will overflow with gratitude.

We should also think of God’s faithfulness. God is forever faithful to His promises to us in Christ (verse 8). He is faithful to meet our every need (verse 41). Think – has God ever failed you? How we should thank Him.

The psalmist then reminds us of God’s goodness. It was God’s plan to give Canaan to Israel (verse 11). Even when God’s plans led Joseph through adversity, it was for his and Israel’s good (verses 16-23). We can thank God because He truly works all things for our good (Romans 8:28).

The psalmist was also thankful for God’s presence (verse 39). We don’t just have God with us – we have Him in us by the Holy Spirit. Our wonderful God is always with us and will never leave us (Hebrews 13:5).

Last, the psalmist reminds us of God’s riches (verse 37). While God may not make us financially wealthy, He gives us the richness of life (John 10:10). He gives a richness that this world’s things cannot give (Psalm 4:7).

No wonder the psalmist was so thankful. How we should be! Let’s express our thanks during this Harvest Banquet.

From Our Family Minister

One year during Students on Fire, the boys stayed at my house. Since I had responsibilities at the Civic Center early the next morning, I let the college kids take over, and I went to bed. I told them they were welcome to the snacks and drinks in the kitchen, but they had to be ready when the bus came and stay awake during the service.

But the next morning, when I walked into the kitchen, I found the trash piled so high it was leaning over the counter. Right beside it sat an empty trash can, unused. I asked, “Why didn’t you just take out the trash or use the empty bag right next to it?” Of course, I heard a variety of excuses: “That’s where everyone else was putting it,” or “I thought someone else was going to do it.”

That pile of trash is a funny reminder of what often happens in church. When we talk about outreach or High Attendance Sunday, it’s easy to assume that “someone else” will take care of inviting. But if everybody thinks someone else will do it, then nobody does it.
Romans 10:14 says, “How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” Paul didn’t write that only pastors or teachers are responsible. Paul believed it is every believer’s calling. Each of us is meant to share, invite, and bring others to the gospel.

Research shows that more than 80% of people attend church when a friend invites them, compared to less than 10% when the pastor alone invites. That means your invitation may carry more weight than a sermon or a visit from a church leader. A simple word from you could be the one thing that gets someone in the door to hear the Gospel.

High Attendance Sunday isn’t about filling seats; it is about reaching hearts. Just like that overflowing trash can, things pile up when everyone assumes it’s someone else’s responsibility. Let’s not leave the work of inviting to “someone else.” Let’s all do our part to reach out and bring others in.

This Sunday, don’t just sit back and hope others invite, take the step yourself. Invite a neighbor, a coworker, or a friend. And if you happen to be reading this on Sunday morning instead of earlier in the week, don’t worry—you can still bring someone next Sunday to make up for it. Let’s make this a Sunday of high attendance and impact for Christ.

Are you struggling to trust God? We all face times of grief, stress, and anxiety that are so heavy we find it difficult to rest in God. You may be in just such a time now.
We are not alone in such circumstances. Asaph was in just such a time in Psalm 77. He was so heavy-hearted that he said, “Has God forgotten to be gracious, or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion (verse 9)?

We have all had such thoughts – even if we are not as poetic in our speech. We have all faced times when we found it difficult to trust God. In fact, as we walk with the Lord, our trials frequently become greater. We see today’s problems are far heavier than yesterday’s.
But we don’t have to give up in despair. Asaph didn’t give up. In fact, the psalm ends in confident praise.

What did Asaph do when he had trouble believing? First, He remembered God’s work in the past (verses 11-12). Today’s problems may seem to be larger, but we can build on God’s past works. Remembering God’s work in every past situation reminds us that we can trust Him in the present situation.

Next, we remember God’s holiness (v.13). While that may seem to be a strange focus, it focuses our attention on the character of God. He is pure, perfect, and good from within. There is absolutely no reason to question His plan, purpose, or motivation. We can trust Him. He is worthy of our trust.

Asaph then leads us to remember God’s power (verse 14). God is unlimited in His power. There is nothing He cannot do. We will never face a problem that strains God. He can do anything. He can easily fulfill His perfect plan.

Last, we need to remember God’s love for us. In verse 15, Asaph uses the term “Your people.” By God’s grace, we are His people. He deeply loves us, has bought us with His Son’s blood, and has reconciled us unto Himself. How can we not trust the One who has so proved His love?

No wonder Asaph ended his psalm in confident praise! He knew God was worthy of his trust. The problem no longer seemed so great.

It can be the same for us. Follow Asaph’s example. You, too, will find it easier to trust God in your problem.
