Trip to the Baxley Children's Home

Join us on Saturday, July 25, for a trip to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home! We will deliver the collected supplies and take a driving tour of the campus to learn more about the important ministry taking place there.

We will leave at 8:30 AM and stop for lunch on our way home. We plan to arrive back at the church around 3:30 PM.

We would love for you to join us for this special day of giving, fellowship, and learning more about this wonderful ministry!

Several months ago our WMU collected items for the Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Baxley.. Due to forest fires, we were unable to make the delivery at that time.

Is your heart full of thanksgiving and praise for the Lord? In Psalm 138, David was inspired to write, “I will give You thanks with all my heart; I will sing praises to You before the gods.” David was filled with thanksgiving and praise – in spite of the many problems he faced.

Why should we be filled with praise and thanksgiving? First, because God hears and answers our prayers. Verse three says, “On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.” Our wonderful God invites us to pray about every worry and concern. He then promises to answer. What a wonderful God! Even in difficulty, we can thank Him because He answers us.

We should also give thanks because God deeply loves us. Verse 6 says, “For though the Lord is exalted, yet He regards the lowly, but the haughty He knows from afar.” The Sovereign God of the Ages knows us by heart and loves us with a love that is eternal and beyond measure. What is there to fear or worry?

God then personally works in our lives. Verse 7 says, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me.” David knew that God wasn’t merely watching him go through his life, but that God was personally involved. God is always with us. God is always working. We can always rejoice because we are not alone or on our own.

Last, we can praise and give thanks because God will fulfill the plans He has for us. No doubt David wondered many times how God would fulfill His promises. But David grew to learn that God could and would fulfill His promises. Verse 8 reads, “The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting; do not forsake the works of Your hand.” We can thank and praise the Lord. He will fulfill His plans for us. Even if we are at a point where we can’t see how He will do it, nothing can stop Him. What joy we should have in every situation.

Our God is wonderful. How full our hearts ought to be in praise and thanksgiving. Even if we are in the midst of difficulty, we can rejoice in Him. We should join David in saying, “I will give You thanks with all my heart; I will sing praises to You before the gods.”

From Our Family and Music Ministry

A habit I inherited from my dad is that if you are on time, you are already late. He taught me the importance of showing up when you said you would. This past week, I took several training classes. Before the classes began, we were told multiple times via several emails that we would not receive credit if we were more than 15 minutes late or left early. These were not free classes. There was a cost for each person attending, and because many of us were there representing cities and other government organizations, that cost was ultimately being paid with taxpayer dollars.

Even with the warning about attendance, I was surprised by what I saw. In each of the three classes, many people arrived after the starting time, and several came in after the fifteen-minute cutoff. During breaks, we were given a clear time to return, yet many were still late coming back. In one class, someone arrived over forty-five minutes late, set their things down, and then went to the complimentary breakfast table. It was nearly another fifteen minutes before they actually settled in and began listening to the class.

As I sat there watching all of this, I began thinking, “They knew the rules. They knew the time. They knew someone had paid for them to be here. Why were they not ready?”
Then the thought came to me: How often do we treat God the same way?

We have been given something far more valuable than a training class. We have been given the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, purchased at a price greater than we could ever imagine. Scripture reminds us, “You were bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:20, ESV).

Yet, sometimes we treat our relationship with God casually. We know we need to pray, but we put it off. We know we need to spend time in His Word, but something else gets our attention. We know there is something God is calling us to do, but we tell ourselves that we will get around to it later.

Jesus said, “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44, ESV).

The Christian life is not about arriving at the last possible moment or giving God whatever time and attention we happen to have left. It is about living each day ready, faithful, and obedient.

Being ready does not mean that we are perfect. It means that our hearts are open to the Lord. It means that we do not continually put off until tomorrow what God is calling us to do today. It means that we remember the price that was paid for us and live with gratitude for what Christ has done.

From Our Pastor

This weekend we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. How blessed we are to live in a constitutional republic that is based on individual freedom and liberty! Our hearts ought to overflow with gratitude. Our hearts ought to overflow with gratitude.

But we also approach this time with heaviness and concern. We see a nation that has turned away from God and is seemingly determined to destroy itself through its moral choices. We are privately and publicly on the course of economic ruin by spending money we know we will never have. For decades, both parties have assaulted our freedoms and liberties under the guise of protecting us. We are in a war that has numerous complexities to end and frightening consequences to continue. Our celebration carries serious concerns this Independence Day.

What should we do? Consider the instructions the Prophet Samuel told the Israelites when they longed to be delivered from the Philistines. In 1 Samuel 7:3, Samuel said, “…If you return to the Lord with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the Lord and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”

If God is going to deliver America, we must first return to God. We (beginning with believers) must confess and repent of our sins. We will not be delivered by talking about “those people” committing “those sins.” We (each of us) must deal with our sins.
Next, we must remove all our gods. These are the things that compete with God for first place in our hearts. They would also be those things that we trust instead of God. Lastly, they would include any concept of God that differs from how He has revealed Himself. All these must be removed.

Samuel then told them to turn their hearts to the Lord. One of the key elements of such a turn is prayer. We need to seek God in prayer for our nation. He alone can deliver us. We need to pray as if our nation’s life depends upon it – because it does.
Last, we must serve the Lord. That means we live our lives in obedience unto Him. We seek to fulfill God’s will in what we do, how we do it, and in our motivation for doing it. We must live to serve Him.

Will God respond to a people who make such a change? Verse 3 ends with the promise of a wonderful deliverance. The rest of the chapter records the deliverance God gave His people.

God delivers people who truly turn to Him. May we be such people. Our nation needs us.

From Our Family and Music Minister

As we gather with family and friends this week, we will see flags waving, hear fireworks throughout the neighborhood, hold our dog as the panic from the fireworks, and remember the sacrifices made by those who fought for our nation's freedom. Independence Day reminds us that liberty is precious and that freedom has always come at a cost.

As Christians, we also have an opportunity to reflect on an even greater freedom this holiday. The freedom we have in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote, "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery" (Galatians 5:1, ESV). Before Christ, we were enslaved to sin. We could not save ourselves, change our hearts, or earn God's favor. Yet Jesus willingly went to the cross, paying a debt we could never pay, so that we might be forgiven and become a new creation.

Unlike political freedom, which can be won or lost by nations, the freedom Christ offers is eternal. It frees us from the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and one day in heaven, even the presence of sin. Because of His sacrifice, we are no longer defined by our failures, guilt, or past mistakes. We have been adopted into God's family and given a new purpose.

However, Christian freedom is not permission to live however we please. Paul continues in Galatians 5:13, "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." True freedom is found in obeying Christ and serving others.

As we celebrate our nation's independence this week, let us also celebrate the freedom that can never be taken away. May we thank God for those who have defended our country's freedom, but even more, may we thank Him for Jesus, who secured our eternal freedom through His death and resurrection.

Enjoy the celebrations, cherish time with family, and remember that the greatest freedom we can ever know is found in Christ alone.

How do you handle difficult, confusing situations in your life? We have all faced thorny problems that we could not solve or improve. Often, these issues have severe consequences.
In Matthew 1:18-25, Joseph faced such a situation. His fiancée was expecting a child, and Joseph knew he was not the father.

What should he do? Every possible course of action seemed to result in gossip, slander, and ridicule. Mary could even have been stoned if Joseph had openly exposed her.
While Joseph's situation was obviously unique, he is a wonderful example of how to handle complex problems with significant consequences. As we study Joseph's response, we see several key priorities that guided him through this crisis. Those same priorities can guide us through our own confusing circumstances.

The first priority that should guide us is righteousness (verse 19). That means we desire to be right with God in our responses and decisions. We study His Word for commands, principles, and examples that address our situation. Our highest priority must always be being right with God.

The next priority is compassion. Joseph wanted to handle the situation in a way that would cause Mary as little pain as possible. He would not compromise obedience to God, but he would seek to minimize Mary's hurt.

What an example for us! Like Joseph, we must never compromise righteousness. But we must do what we can to minimize the “fall-out” that others experience.

Joseph also shows us the importance of being sensitive to God's leading. He listened to what God told him through the angel (verses 20-21). Joseph demonstrated this same sensitivity when the Lord told him to flee to Egypt (Matthew 2:13). He showed it again when the Lord instructed him to return (Matthew 2:20-22). God could lead Joseph through difficult times because Joseph was sensitive to the Lord's direction.

What an example for us! God will lead us if we are sensitive to His voice. Henry Blackaby taught that God speaks to us through His Word, through His people, and through circumstances. God is always willing to lead us; we must be like Joseph and remain sensitive to His guidance.

Last, Joseph demonstrates the priority of obedience. In every situation, Joseph did what God commanded. May the same be said of us! It is through obedience that we experience God's leading.

Our primary focus will be cleaning up behind the Family Life Building, along with other projects around the church grounds and facilities. As we prepare for our nation's 250th birthday celebration and work to keep our campus looking its best, there are many opportunities to help.

We also encourage Sunday School classes to take a few moments to declutter and tidy their classrooms. A clean, organized space helps create a welcoming environment for members and guests alike.

If you notice areas needing attention, please let a Building and Grounds Committee member or Jonathan know.

From Our Family and Music Minister

Every time I open social media this time of year, I see pictures and videos of harvest season. Farmers are picking watermelons, gathering corn, shelling peas, and bringing fresh vegetables to local farmers' markets. The fields produce exactly what they were planted to produce months ago.

However, before there can be a harvest, there must first be planting. A farmer does not plant a seed one day and expect a harvest the next. There is planting, watering, waiting, and growth before the fruit ever appears.

In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus spoke about seed being scattered on different types of soil (Matthew 13:3-9). The seed represented God's Word, and the condition of the soil represented the hearts of those who hear it. Jesus taught that growth begins when God's Word takes root in our lives.

Many Christians desire a spiritual harvest. We want stronger faith, greater wisdom, deeper relationships, and a closer walk with Christ. We want to see God work in our families, our church, and our community. Yet sometimes we become discouraged because we do not see immediate results.

The Apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians 6:9, "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Notice that Paul does not say we will reap immediately. He says we will reap "in due season." God's harvest comes in God's timing.

Sometimes we spend too much time wishing we were somewhere else. We think, "If I had a different job, a different family situation, a different church position, or different opportunities, then I could really serve God." But Scripture repeatedly teaches us that God often does His greatest work right where He has planted us.

The farmer does not move the corn every few weeks, hoping it will grow better somewhere else. Growth happens when the plant puts down roots where it has been planted. The same is true spiritually. God has placed each of us in a unique place to serve Him. Whether you are a student, a parent, a grandparent, a teacher, a farmer, a business owner, or retired, God has planted you where you are for a purpose.

As harvest season unfolds around us, let it serve as a reminder that spiritual growth follows the same pattern. Stay faithful in worship. Stay faithful in prayer. Stay faithful in God's Word. Continue serving where God has placed you.

You may not see the fruit today, but every act of obedience is a seed planted for a future harvest. Grow where God has planted you, trust His timing, and leave the harvest in His hands.

Have you praised and thanked the Lord today? The inspired author of Psalm 135 wrote, “Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; praise Him, O servants of the Lord” (verse 1). Praise and thanksgiving should be part of our ongoing Christian experience.

The inspired author not only told us to praise and thank the Lord, but he also told us why we should praise the Lord. These are not the only reasons, but they serve as an excellent starting point. If we apply these reasons, many more will come from the heart.

The first reason to praise and thank the Lord is His identity. He is the one and only God. Verse 5 says, “For I know that the Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods.” God alone is God. If God had never done anything, He would still be worthy of praise. Think about God. Just that thought should lead us to awe-struck worship.

Next, we see God’s sovereign power. Verse 6 says, “Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.” Our God is always in absolute control of all things. He rules and reigns. This should lead us to worship and confident prayer.

The psalmist reminds us of God’s salvation. He points out that it is purely by grace. Verse 4 says, “For the Lord has chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel for His possession.” The psalmist later shows that salvation was brought about by God. Verses 8–9 say, “He smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and beast. He sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh and all his servants.” Just as Israel’s deliverance from Egypt was by the power of God, so too is our deliverance from sin through Jesus Christ. Every part of our salvation is of God. How we ought to praise Him!

Last, we are reminded of God’s wonderful plans for us. Verses 10–12 describe God’s giving the land of Canaan to His people. God has wonderful plans for us. He desires to fill and bless our lives in ways that surpass our comprehension and imagination. How wonderful He is! He is worthy of all our praise and thanksgiving.

What a God we have! May we join the psalmist in saying, “Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; praise Him, O servants of the Lord” (verse 1).

From Our Family and Music Minister

This Wednesday night, our choir will present a special program focused on the hope of Heaven. Whether you are reading this before the service or afterward, thinking about the songs and message, the message is still the same: Heaven is a wonderful promise for every believer in Christ.

There is something powerful and comforting about songs that remind us of our eternal home. Life on this earth is filled with both joy and sorrow. Many of us carry burdens, face uncertainty, or grieve the loss of loved ones. Yet as Christians, we have a hope that goes beyond this world. Scripture reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 that we “sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.” When those who know Christ leave this earth, we can find comfort in knowing they are in the presence of the Lord.

Jesus gave His followers this promise in John 14:2–3: “In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you.” What an encouragement to know that this world is not our final home. As believers, we are simply passing through. Hebrews 13:14 says, “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.”

In a world that constantly pushes us to focus on temporary things, we must remember to keep our eyes fixed on eternity. Colossians 3:2 tells us, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” The things of this life will one day fade away, but the promises of God are eternal.

The songs about Heaven we sing are more than beautiful melodies. These songs are reminders of the hope we have in Christ. One day, every sorrow will be gone, every tear wiped away, and every believer will finally be home with the Savior. Revelation 21:4 says, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.”

May we live each day remembering that Heaven is real, Christ is faithful, and our true home is waiting for us. Until that day comes, I pray that we continue to serve the Lord faithfully and encourage one another with the hope we have in Him.

From Our Pastor

Why follow the Lord? Many times, He leads us to swim against the current of popular thinking, even among professing Christians. He often calls us to forsake our own desires and preferences. Why take such a path?

Yet, God calls us to follow Him. We are to live in loving obedience to His Lordship. While this is often a difficult path, it is the path that God always blesses.
This wonderful truth is clearly seen in Nehemiah’s prayer in Nehemiah 9. While the prayer is ultimately a prayer of confession, verses 19–25 show God’s blessing on Israel when the nation followed Him. This part of Nehemiah’s prayer shows us the blessings of following the Lord.

Following the Lord enables us to experience God’s guidance. Verse 19 says, “…the pillar of cloud did not leave them by day, to guide them on their way…” That means God had a plan for them and wanted to guide them into that plan.

It is the same for us. God has a wonderful plan for us. He wants to guide us into that plan. In fact, we cannot experience that plan unless we allow Him to lead us. We must follow Him if we are going to experience His plan.

Next, following God is the path to experiencing His provision. Verses 20–21 speak of God providing manna and water. Verse 21 also speaks of God providing for them by not letting their clothes wear out.

God provided all they needed when they followed Him. He still does (Philippians 4:19). God provides for us when we follow Him, but we experience that provision only when we follow Him.

Protection is another blessing we experience when we follow God. Verses 22–29 recount the victories God gave Israel over more powerful enemies. When we walk with the Lord, we have His protection. Yes, there will be battles, but He will protect us and overcome our foes (Psalm 23:4; 1 John 4:4).

Last, following the Lord is the way to experience the richness He wants to give us. Verse 25 says Israel “…took possession of houses full of every good thing, hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate, were filled, and grew fat, and reveled in Your great goodness.” God richly blessed Israel when they followed Him.
God still blesses His people when they follow Him. He gives whatever physical blessings they need and richly fills their souls from within. If we follow the Lord, He will fill our lives (Psalm 23:5).

We often think of following the Lord in terms of sacrifice. True, obedience is often costly. But the blessings are far greater than the sacrifice.

After the market, we’ll head over to The Pit Stop for lunch. Come hungry and ready for some good food and even better conversation. Whether you’re there for the shopping, the food, or just the fellowship, this will be a great opportunity to spend time together outside of our regular schedule.

From Our Family and Music Minister

Ever since my wife talked me into getting a golden retriever when we were engaged, I am sure many of you have heard me tell stories about Maverick’s unique personality. A few weeks ago, our shower curtain was on its last leg, so we decided to replace it. Now, every morning when I get up, Maverick loves to run into the bathroom to get my attention, even if I have just spent the last several minutes petting him in another room. It was just another normal morning when I walked into the bathroom and here he came running in behind me. But the moment he noticed the shower curtain had changed, he immediately stopped, turned around, and ran out of the room. What makes the story even funnier is that the curtain only changed from brown to gray. Nothing major had changed. It was the same bathroom, same people, same smells, same routine, it was just a different curtain. Yet for over three days he refused to even walk into the bathroom, and it took another week before he finally became comfortable with it again.

As silly as that sounds, the truth is many of us are not much different. Sometimes even the smallest changes in life can make us uncomfortable. We like routine, predictability, and familiarity. But often God leads us into places that feel unfamiliar. Sometimes He calls us into a new season of life, a new ministry opportunity, a new challenge, or a new step of faith that feels uncomfortable simply because it is different from what we are used to.

The problem is that fear of change can keep us from following where God is leading. Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” God never promised that every path would feel comfortable, but He did promise that He would guide us. Sometimes we want God’s direction as long as it keeps us inside our comfort zone. Yet faith often requires stepping into unfamiliar places while trusting a familiar Savior.

Throughout Scripture, we see God calling people into change. Abraham was called to leave his homeland without knowing where he was going. Moses was called out of the wilderness back into Egypt. Peter stepped out of the boat onto stormy waters simply because Jesus told him to come. None of those situations felt natural or comfortable, but growth rarely happens inside comfort zones.

As children of God, we must learn to trust His voice more than our comfort. Change may make us uncomfortable, but God has never failed His people. The same God who led His people in the past is still faithfully leading today.

What do you need today? Have you prayed about it? Did you experience God’s peace and confidence as a result of your time in prayer?

God wants us to bring every need to Him and to experience His peace and confidence. Matthew 7:7–8 says, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

What a wonderful promise! Our Lord then illustrated it with the picture of a father giving his hungry son bread instead of a rock or a snake (verses 8–11). The father perfectly met the son’s need. Our Lord made it clear that He is even better than the father in the illustration.

What does this tell us about prayer? First, we have a Heavenly Father who deeply loves us and cares about our lives. He is not some disinterested, powerful person who knows us only as a number—if He knows us at all. No, our Father knows us by heart and has loved us forever (Jeremiah 31:3). Our petitions come to our loving Father.

Second, our Father knows best and will only give what is best. When the son asked for bread, the father gave him bread. The father did not give a stone (a cruel joke) or a snake (dangerous, even though many boys would have enjoyed it!). No, the father gave the son what he needed.

We can trust our Father’s perfect answer. He will not give us an empty substitute or something that will hurt us. He will only give us His best. By the way, this is why His answers are often different from our requests—He knows what is best.

Lastly, we see the Father’s ability. The father in our Lord’s illustration had the capacity to give the son some bread. Our Lord’s power and resources are unlimited. Nothing can limit His desire to give us His best.

What a wonderful Father we have! He deeply loves us. He knows what is best for us. Nothing limits Him. How we should trust Him in prayer!

From Our Family And Music Minister

This week, I attended a meeting in Waycross, Georgia, where several city officials shared updates about the fires affecting their communities. They were very grateful as they thanked others for the support, supplies, and help they had received. Several spoke about immediate needs and what firefighters' needs were right now in the middle of the battle.

But then, an older woman from Nahunta, a small town about half the size of Ashburn, stood up and said something that really made me think. She was very thankful for all the help, but then she added, “If your city is looking to do something, think about us in the long term.”
A fire director in Brantly County explained that it could take 9 to 12 inches of rain to fully extinguish the fire, and they expect to be fighting it for at least another month. That means millions of gallons of water, aging equipment running nonstop, and large amounts of fuel being used from this little town. Even when the fire is finally out, the strain on that small town will remain. Her request was simple: “Remember us six months from now… even a year from now.”

Listening to her, I was reminded of the Christian life. We often focus on the moment someone comes to Christ. Of course, there's nothing wrong with celebrating because Jesus said there is great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7). But that moment is just the beginning.

Jesus didn’t just call us to make converts, but to “make disciples” (Matthew 28:19). Growth takes time. New believers still face struggles, old habits, and the pressures of the world. They need encouragement, guidance, and support along the way.

Scripture reminds us to “encourage one another and build one another up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11) and to “bear one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2).

Getting someone to church is just the start. Seeing someone baptized is just the start. Real ministry happens on the long road that follows.

Let’s not forget that road. Let’s be faithful not just in the moment, but in the months and years of helping others grow in Christ.

How is your attitude today? Have you noticed we automatically link our attitude to our circumstances? If we are in pleasant circumstances, we are happy. If we are in more difficult circumstances, we are sad or depressed.

How different was the Apostle Paul! He wrote in Philippians 4:11 that he had learned to be content no matter what his circumstances. That meant his attitude came from within, not from his circumstances. Good times did not make him irresponsible. Difficult times did not leave him downcast.

What determined Paul’s attitude? First, Paul recognized God’s sovereign control over his circumstances. The verses preceding this speak of the reality of God's work in the believer’s life. Paul knew that God was in control of every part of his life. He knew that all God did in his life was for good (Romans 8:28). Paul never considered that his life was by chance or coincidence. His loving Savior was in control.

It is the same for us. God is in control. Whatever we are experiencing, God has allowed for our good. We can trust Him.

Next, Paul knew God’s enabling. Verse 13 says, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Paul knew that God would enable him to do whatever was necessary in every situation.

What an encouragement for us! How often is our poor attitude the result of fearing that we won’t be able to endure, handle, or solve a problem? We can relax. God will enable us to do whatever the situation requires.

Last, Paul knew that God would provide for his every need. Verse 19 says, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Paul knew God would provide for his every need—spiritual, emotional, financial, and logistical.

We can have that same confidence. God will meet our every need. We don’t have to live in worry or anxiety. God will provide.

Far too often, we allow our circumstances to determine our attitude. We are up and down based on our situation. We need to learn from Paul and live life in the reality of our Lord. He will lift us up.

Items Needed: 13 Gallon Tie Trash Bags, Paper Towels, Liquid Laundry Detergent, Dawn Dish Soup, Canned Chicken, and Cream of Chicken Soup.

Fun and Fellowship will be delivering the items collected by the WMU class to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home on Friday, April 24, 2026.

After the delivery, we will enjoy lunch together at Boatright’s Buffet in Alma, GA.

From Our Family and Music Minister

There’s something about tax season that brings out a very special talent in all of us, the ability to turn the house upside down looking for one tiny receipt or form we put somewhere safe so we would have it.

Suddenly, drawers are opened, cars are cleaned for the first time since Christmas, and the stack of papers on your desk becomes an archaeological dig site. We find things we forgot we had, and then put them somewhere we will not forget, but still don’t find the thing we actually need.

And somewhere in the middle of all the paperwork, numbers, and maybe a little frustration, it’s easy to forget that even this season can point us to something deeper.
The Bible teaches us that “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23–24, ESV)

Faithfulness isn’t just about the big, spiritual moments. Faithfulness is also about how we handle the everyday responsibilities before us. Even something as ordinary as filing taxes can be an opportunity to practice integrity, honesty, and responsibility. It’s a reminder that what we have has been entrusted to us by God, and we are called to handle it well.

Now, that doesn’t mean you have to enjoy tax season. But it does mean we can approach it with the right perspective. Instead of stress and frustration taking over, we can choose to be honest in what we report, be responsible with what we’ve been given, and trust God with the outcome.

At the end of the day, tax season will come and go. But our calling to be faithful in all things remains.

We are truly blessed to have children attending on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings! As our group continues to grow, there are times when it would be helpful to divide the ages a bit more so we can better meet their needs and help each child grow.

We are looking for a few people who would be willing to help with 1st–5th grade by doing occasional pull-outs during Sunday School or assisting for part of the time on Wednesday nights. This would not be an every-week commitment—just having a few people available when needed would make a huge difference.

If you have a heart for children or feel God may be leading you to serve in this way, please get with Jonathan or Saskia.

Investing in the next generation is one of the most meaningful ways we can serve. A need like this is often how God gives us an opportunity to step in and make a difference.

From Our Pastor

Do you ever feel discouraged or even frightened in living the Christian life? So often we look at our weaknesses and think, “I can’t do it.” We look at this sinful world and think, “It is too strong.” We then pull back or try to go low profile.

We don’t have to be frightened or discouraged. God has given us all we need to be able to live for Him in this world. Our Lord made this clear in John 14–15, where He was preparing the disciples just hours before His crucifixion.

What has God given us to enable us to live for Him? He has given us Himself. Our Lord is with us through the Holy Spirit. John 14:18 says, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” In verse 20, He says He is in us. In verse 24, He speaks of making His abode with us.

What an amazing truth! God is within the individual believer. We are not on our own. He is with us. He doesn’t just send us; He goes with us.

We also have God’s strengthening. In 14:16, our Lord said, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever.” The word “Helper” conveys the idea of walking with someone to strengthen and encourage them. The idea in the verse is that, just as the Lord was with the disciples, He is now with us through His Holy Spirit. Child of God, you are not on your own. The Lord is with you.

Through the Spirit, we also have God’s guidance. In 14:26, our Lord said the Spirit “…will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” That means He will guide us. He will give us the truth, the understanding, and the insight we need. We don’t have to try to bump our way through situations. The Holy Spirit will guide us.

We also have God’s enablement. In John 15:1–6, our Lord said we would bear much fruit if we abided in Him. We don’t have to produce results. God produces the results as we allow Him to live through us. God Himself enables us to accomplish everything He desires.
What a difference this makes in our lives! We can live and serve the Lord in confidence. He provides everything we need.

Growing up, my dad wasn’t much into sports. I don’t remember him ever sitting down to watch a game on TV. But for some reason, when we were kids, we went to all of Tiftarea’s home football games. At the time, I didn’t realize how big a deal it was, but Tiftarea had made it to the state championship.

Like most kids, I spent the majority of my time behind the stands playing with friends, only coming up front when I needed money for the concession stand. As the game was coming to a close, Tiftarea was behind, and it looked like we were going to lose. It was such a sure thing that my dad came to get me, and we started walking back to the car early to beat the traffic.

But then something unexpected happened.

As we were leaving, my dad, along with many others who had already started walking out, suddenly turned around and headed back toward the stadium. In just the last few minutes of the game, everything changed. While we were behind the stands, the team had gone from losing to winning. That night, Tiftarea won the state championship. Many fans almost missed the win because they thought the game was already over; they had given up.

As we reflect on Easter, it’s hard not to see a similar moment in the story of Jesus.

After His crucifixion, it seemed like everything was lost. The women were preparing spices to anoint His body. The disciples were scattered, afraid, and hiding behind locked doors. Peter, who had once boldly followed Jesus, had denied Him and was left wrestling with guilt.

Rome believed it had silenced another potential uprising. The Jewish leaders felt they had secured their position and removed the one they saw as a threat. From every human perspective, the story was over.

But God was not finished.

Three days later, everything changed.

The tomb was empty. Jesus had risen just as He said He would. What looked like defeat was actually victory. What seemed like the end was only the beginning. Sorrow was turned into joy, fear into boldness, and despair into unshakable hope.

Those same disciples who had hidden in fear would soon stand and proclaim the risen Christ with courage. The women who came in mourning became the first witnesses of the resurrection. And the message that seemed to be silenced began to spread to the ends of the earth.

How often do we do the same?

We walk away too early. We assume God is finished. We believe the situation is too far gone.

But Easter reminds us that God is still at work, even when it looks like all hope is lost.
The story isn’t over.

Victory may be closer than we think.

From Our Pastor

This Sunday is Palm Sunday. It is the day we remember our Lord riding into Jerusalem for His final week of ministry on this earth. Matthew 21:7–9 says, “…(they) brought the donkey … laid their coats … and He sat upon them … the crowd … were cutting branches from the trees … shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!’”

What an amazing and exciting event! But why is it significant? How does it impact us?
Think about what John was inspired to write in 1 John 4:9–10: “By this, the love of God was manifested in us, that God sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

These verses tell us that the Lord Jesus went to Jerusalem because of His and the Father’s love for us. In spite of our sins and sinfulness, God loves us. Christ rode into Jerusalem because of His love for us.

John also tells us the ultimate purpose of the Lord Jesus riding into Jerusalem: He was to be the propitiation for our sins. Propitiation means the satisfaction of divine wrath. We sinners (every one of us) are under God’s condemnation and facing eternal judgment. The Lord Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem so that all of God’s judgment and wrath would be poured out upon Him. He took the judgment we deserve.

These verses also tell us the result of the Lord entering Jerusalem to be the propitiation for our sins. Verse 9 says, “…so that we might live through Him.” Jesus became our propitiation to give us spiritual life. Through Him, we are born again into real life and a relationship with God. It also means we will spend eternity with our Lord in the home He has prepared for His children. He entered Jerusalem to give us life.

What a wonderful Lord we have! As we remember the elements of His entrance into Jerusalem, may we remember He entered to die in our place to give us life. May our hearts be filled with love and adoration

From Our Family and Music Minister

In small towns, reputation matters. People know your name, your family, and most of the time what you had for breakfast. While that can be a blessing at times, it can also create an inner pressure for someone to look right, act right, and always have things together. Without even realizing it, we can begin to live not for what is right, but for how we are perceived.

That’s where pride often takes hold.

Pride isn’t always loud or obvious. It doesn’t always show up as arrogance. Many times, it can be seen as the pressure we put on ourselves. The constant need to perform, to succeed, and to avoid looking like a failure in the world's eyes at all costs. It whispers things like, “Don’t mess up,” or “What will people think?” Over time, that pressure begins to shape how we live. We stop living freely and worry more about maintaining an image than walking in truth.

The Bible gives us a clear example of this in the life of King Saul. After disobeying God, Saul admitted his sin, but then said something concerning: “I have sinned… yet honor me now before the elders of my people” (1 Samuel 15:30). Even in his confession, Saul was more concerned about how he appeared to others than about being right with God. His focus was not on the restoration from God, but on his reputation with others.

That is what pride does. It shifts our focus from God’s approval to people’s approval.
And that kind of living is exhausting.

When we are constantly trying to meet expectations, we will eventually wear ourselves down. We begin to fear failure, not because we want to honor God, but because we don’t want to look bad. We carry a weight we were never meant to carry.

But Scripture offers us a better way.

Galatians 1:10 reminds us, “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? … If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” We were never called to impress the world; as believers, we were called to follow Jesus.

That means we don’t have to be perfect; we are called to be faithful. We don’t have to prove ourselves; we are called to trust Him. We don’t have to live under constant pressure; we are offered the invitation to live under grace.

When we release pride, we also release the pressure that comes with it. We are free to be honest about our weaknesses, to grow through our failures, and to walk in obedience without fear of how others may judge us.

We must honestly ask ourselves: Are we living to impress people, or to please God?

From Our Pastor

In Philippians 4:5b, we read, “…The Lord is near.” God is not “out there somewhere.” He is close to us. The Father is always watching over us. The Son is always interceding for us. The Holy Spirit is within us to strengthen, encourage, guide, and intercede for us. God is near His people.

What real difference does that make in our lives? Is all that merely theory, or does it impact us? What concrete differences does the reality of God’s nearness make in our lives? The Apostle Paul answers that question in verses 4-9. He shows us the wonderful ways God’s presence makes a difference in our everyday lives.

We first see that the Lord’s nearness enables us to live in joy. Verse 4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!” That doesn’t mean rejoice because we have hard, painful experiences. It does mean that we can rejoice in hard, painful circumstances because God is in control, has an ultimate good plan for us, and is using the situation to grow and mature us. God’s nearness enables us to rejoice even in difficult situations.

God’s nearness enables us to keep ourselves under control. Verse 5 says, “Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.” When we remember that the Lord is with us in every situation, we can trust Him to enable us to handle those situations in a godly manner. We don’t have to “blow up,” lash out, or attack. We can be calm in the reality of His presence.

Recognizing God’s nearness enables us to trust Him. Verses 6-7 say, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” That experience requires a God who is near. That is what we have!

God’s nearness also leads us to a life of excellence. In verse 8, we see that this impacts our thinking. We will put our minds on things of value and turn away from the worthless. Verse 9 speaks of our conduct. Remembering God’s nearness impacts our every thought and action. We begin to live a life of excellence.

Child of God, the Lord is near. Let the reality of His presence strengthen, guide, and fill your life.

From Our Family and Music Minister

As I’ve been putting together devotions for our Small Town Truths series, I’ve found myself thinking about the stories my dad used to tell. Now, you had to be careful with some of his stories. My dad had a way of placing himself in historical events that clearly happened before he was born. When I learned in school about when the Civil War actually took place, I realized he probably didn’t serve in it as he claimed. So, some of his “history lessons” required a little discernment. But there was one story he told that several people who were actually there confirmed.

It happened at a graveside service out at Bethel Church. The burial that day was taking place near the edge of the cemetery, and just beyond the fence was a cow pasture. And in that pasture was a bull. During the service, while prayers were being prayed and tears quietly wiped away, the bull would lower his head and charge toward the fence. He would run hard and fast, stopping just a few feet short. The first time it happened, people nervously shifted in the seat. The second time, they stepped back together almost in unison. By the third charge, it had become as beautiful as a choir singing in unison. The bull would run, the congregation would scoot, the bull would stop, and everyone would slowly and respectfully return to their place as if nothing had happened. No one said a word. Everyone was trying to remain respectful of the situation.

After the service, when I came up to help fill in the grave, people didn’t say a thing about the man who was buried; all they talked about was the bull. Isn’t that how life happens? At important moments in our lives, especially when we are trying to grow as believers, something always seems to be charging in. Distraction. Fear. Awkwardness. Worry. Sometimes, even humor at the most unexpected time. We gather for worship, and our minds wander. We bow our heads to pray, and something pulls at our attention. We face serious moments, and something unexpected shakes us.

The fence that held the bull back was worn and weathered, the kind of fence that didn’t look strong enough to keep a large dog from slipping through. Yet every time that bull lowered his head and ran full speed toward it, something unseen stopped him in his tracks. The fence may not have looked impressive, but it was stronger than it appeared.

That’s the lesson. The bull could charge all he wanted, but he couldn’t cross the fence. He could stir nerves. He could disrupt comfort. He could make people shuffle their feet. But he couldn’t break through. Hebrews 12:28 reminds us that we have received “a kingdom that cannot be shaken.” The world may shake us. Circumstances may rattle us. Distractions may charge at us. But what God has secured for us in Christ stands firm. Death was present that day at Bethel. Grief was real. But so was hope. As believers, we can have hope in a savior who is stronger than anything that charges the fence.

Have you noticed the sunrises the past couple of weeks? They have been beautiful! I love this time of year. My morning walks are glorious shows that begin in darkness and end with the sun shining over the horizon.

It is so appropriate that I am in the Gospel of John in my quiet time. The sunrise illustrates what our Lord said about Himself. In John 8:12, we read: “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.’”

Think of how light describes our Lord. Light shows purity. Picture a brilliant sunrise on a crystal-clear, cold winter morning — that is but a small illustration of the nature of God. 1 John 1:5 says, “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” Our Lord is pure and holy in His person and all His acts. There is no dark spot anywhere in Him. We can trust Him.

Light also reveals. I can walk a lot faster after the sun begins to light the horizon—I can see where I am going. God, as light, reveals our condition. Jesus reveals how far short of the Father we have fallen.

Fortunately, light (especially sunlight) also purifies. Who hasn’t put shoes or clothing in the sun for it to cleanse them? Jesus, as the Light of the World, took our sin upon Himself at Calvary to make us clean before the Father.

Last, light guides. Our Lord said these words during the Feast of Booths. The feast reminded the Jews of how God guided and provided for them through the wilderness. God led them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21). Our Lord was saying He will guide us just as the cloud and fire guided ancient Israel. He is our Light for life. If we follow Him, we will not walk in darkness.

Yes, sunrises are beautiful—but our God is even better. He will cleanse and guide us if we walk with Him.

From Our Family And Music Minister

There is something powerful about a small town. Not because it is quiet or simple, but because people matter there. In a small town, you notice when someone is missing. People show up when something goes wrong. They also celebrate together as well as caring for each other during hard times. Community is not just a word; it is a way of life. Whether we realize it or not, every church is like a “town.”

As a church, we are shaping the culture, but what kind of culture are we shaping? Are we becoming a place where faith is stronger than fear, where grace is stronger than criticism, where people are known rather than just counted, where families can grow together rather than drift apart?

Scripture reminds us that spiritual growth was never meant to happen in isolation. In Acts 2:42–47, we are given a picture of the early church: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Notice the word used in the passage, “devoted.” They were committed not only to learning but also to doing life with one another. The passage continues, “All who believed were together and had all things in common… And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes… they received their food with glad and generous hearts.” Each believer had a personal faith, but it was never a private faith. It was shared, lived out, and strengthened in community.

Community shapes us more than we realize. We become like the atmosphere around us. Proverbs 13:20 reminds us, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise.” Fear and anxiety spread when we allow it, but so does a steady trust in God. In the same way, encouragement and faith spread when we gather regularly around a supportive community that believes in prayer and encourages one another.

That is part of the reason for our Wednesday night Family Night study, Small Town Truths. While we are enjoying some lighthearted moments together, the deeper goal is building a community where God’s word shapes our homes and relationships. It is not about simply attending church; it is about belonging to one another and growing together. The kind of town we are becoming does not happen by accident. It happens when we choose to show up, to encourage, to pray together, to speak truth with love, and to be an example of steady faith in uncertain times.

In a world that often feels divided and hurried, what if our church became known as a place of steadiness? A place where families are strengthened, people are growing, and Christ is clearly reflected in how we care for one another. That kind of community benefits not just us but also the generations who grow with us. May we always see the importance of creating a loving community with the heart of Jesus.

Just a reminder that the Turner Baptist Women’s Spring Meeting (men are invited, too) will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Inaha Baptist Church
(271 W. Inaha Rd., Sycamore, GA).

Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Our church is responsible for bringing fruit salad, so please plan to help with this if you are able. Bring your assigned salad or dessert and join us for a meaningful time of fellowship and encouragement as we learn where God is working.

We will hear from two speakers that evening: a special missionary and Terry Bennett, Executive Director of The Bridge of Tiftarea. The Bridge includes Tiftarea House of Hope (a shelter for homeless women), the Training Center (job skills training), and the Bird’s Nest thrift store, which helps support the ministry.

The evening offering will be given to The Bridge of Tiftarea.

How unsettled is this world! It does not matter if you are looking at political, economic, social, or scientific issues; man’s society is crumbling before our eyes. No wonder so many people go to such great lengths to minimize, escape, or end their pain and fear. Who can blame them when all they see is fear and uncertainty?

However, as believers, we have been delivered from such living. Our Lord is with us, and His presence changes everything. In Isaiah 52:12, He says, “But you will not go out in haste, nor will you go as fugitives; for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”

Think about why the believer does not have to live given over to fear and uncertainty. The middle of the verse says, “…the Lord will go before you….” That refers to God’s leadership. He goes before us and clears the path. He shows us the way to go and removes every obstacle. It is the same thought as Proverbs 3:6, where it says, “…He will make your paths straight.” As the late Dr. Adrian Rogers expressed, “God will bulldoze a path for you.” God leads us and clears the path before us.

The verse ends by saying, “…and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” That speaks of God protecting us from any unexpected dangers or ambushes. It also speaks of God making sure no one is left behind. No one can snatch us out of God’s protection, and we will never fall through the cracks.
The verse also tells the wonderful difference such truth makes: “But you will not go out in haste….” That means we don’t have to live in a panic-stricken rush. We can live in a sense of calm and peace.

We can also live in peaceful security. The verse continues, “…nor will you go as fugitives….” We don’t have to live in fear like we are running for our lives from a war zone or disaster area. We can live in the security of our loving Lord.

Yes, these are unsettled and uncertain times. But we have a God in whom we can trust. In Him, we have peace, security, and confidence.

From Our Family and Music Minister

If you were unable to attend the recent Turner Baptist on Mission Celebration, you truly missed a blessing. It was more than just a time for us to gather; it was a powerful reminder of what it means to live a life committed to Christ and His mission.

While it was encouraging to hear about the different ministries and mission fields represented, I hope everyone who attended came away with something deeper than just information. What stood out most was not simply what these missionaries are doing, but who they are. They are men and women who have chosen to make missions a lifelong commitment, not just a short-term project.

One of the most inspiring parts of the celebration was hearing how some of these missionaries did not begin their mission work early in life. Some were called later, after careers, families, and years of faithful service in their local churches. Their stories reminded us that God is never finished with us. As Philippians 1:6 reminds us, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

We were reminded that there is no age limit on obedience. You are never too young to be a bold witness for Christ, and you are never too old to answer His call. Whether through going, giving, praying, teaching, encouraging, or serving right where we are, every believer has a role in God’s mission. Scripture tells us, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).

The celebration challenged us to examine our own lives. Are we viewing missions as something “others” do, or are we living every day as ambassadors for Christ? The speakers made it clear that following Jesus is not about convenience; it is about commitment. As Paul writes, “We are ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

My prayer is that this event was not just a good memory, but a turning point for many of us. May it inspire us to live with greater purpose, deeper faith, and a renewed passion to share Christ wherever He leads.

Don’t Miss the On Mission Celebration!
We’re excited to be part of the upcoming On-Mission Celebration. This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from missionaries serving with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board (GBMB), the North American Mission Board (NAMB), and the International Mission Board (IMB).

This is more than an event — it’s a call to live “on mission” at home and around the world.

Here’s What’s Happening:

Saturday, January 31

Mission Fair at 10:00 AM at Bethel Baptist
Come explore how God is moving through missions around the world. Missionaries will have tables set up and will be available to share about their ministries. Lunch will be provided. This is an event for all ages, and it’s especially a great opportunity for youth and children to engage with missions in a hands-on way.
Evening Gathering at 5:00 PM at Morningside Baptist
Our church will join with Morningside Baptist, Grace Fellowship, and Wellspring Baptist for supper and a time of hearing from missionaries Samuel Ayala, Emory Lussi, and Beverly Lussi.

Sunday, February 1

Sunday School – We’ll hear from Twyla Jackson, a North American Missionary.
Morning Worship – Guest speaker Matthew Gibbs from the Georgia Baptist Mission Board will share with us.
Evening Gathering at 5:00 PM at Bethel Baptist
All the churches in the Turner Baptist Association will come together again for supper, followed by worship and time with more missionaries.

What a difference Christ makes in the everyday life of His people. God not only saves the Christian from wrath and judgment, but He also changes the Christian’s life from the inside. In fact, only the Christian really lives!

What are some of the changes that Christ makes in the believer? We find some of these changes in Philippians 1:1–11. Even a quick glance at this passage shows the wonderful experience of the Christian life.

We first see the difference of grace. We usually think of grace only in bringing us to faith. Yet verse 2 makes it clear that God is giving us His grace every day. Our ongoing experience as believers is the receiving of God’s goodness that we have not earned, do not deserve, and for which we can never repay Him. Every day, God wants to pour out His goodness upon us. What a life!

Verse 2 also makes it clear that God wants to fill our lives with His peace. That means more than the absence of fighting. Peace means an inner wholeness and wellness. It is a God-made calmness of heart. This is real and defies all comprehension (Philippians 4:6–7). In this chaotic world, God gives His people peace. What a way to live!

Last, God gives us the confidence that He is making us more like Christ (verse 6). I doubt any of us are really satisfied with ourselves. We see weaknesses and faults. We don’t have to give up in despair. God is working on us right now. This very moment, Christ is making us more like Himself (Romans 8:29). Christ is making us better. What a way to live!

Child of God, think about the wonderful life God wants to give you. Don’t miss out on experiencing it. Let God pour out His goodness on you.
