Megan Woods is a Christian singer and songwriter whose music shares the life-changing truth of God's love. Her hit song “The Truth” grew out of her own journey of struggling with self-worth and discovering her identity in Jesus Christ. Megan now uses her music to remind others that we don't have to believe the lies the world tells us—we can stand on the truth of who we are in Christ!

How do we navigate life?  Every day we face numerous choices and decisions.  Some of these are serious and will influence our life and the lives of those following us.  Each season of life brings its own challenges.  Transitioning from one season to the next is often a difficult journey.  How can we find our way through all these things?

For we who know Christ, the wonderful answer is that our Father will guide us by His Spirit.  Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with you with My eye upon you.”   John 16:13 says, “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”  God Himself wants to guide us through life?

How do we experience His guidance?  We learn some important lessons from Israel’s experience in the wilderness.  God guided them with a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.  We read a description of this process in Numbers 9:15-23.

What do their experiences teach us?  First, we need to watch for the Lord’s leading.  Verse 17 says, “Whenever the cloud was lifted from over the tent, afterward the sons of Israel would set out…”  They had to watch for the clouds lifting.  We need to watch for our Lord’s leading through His Word, prayer, wise counsel, and circumstances.
 
Next, we must follow the Lord as He leads.  God could lead the Israelites only if they followed.  It is the same for us.  As God begins moving, we need to follow.  Like the Israelites, we must follow this day-by-day pattern.  While God sometimes makes major moves in our lives, most of the time He leads us in small, daily steps.  We must follow Him.

Last, we must learn to wait upon Him.  It is easy to become impatient and get ahead of God.  This usually results in a wrong move, and it is always at the wrong time.  Verse 22 says, “Whether it was two days or a month or a year that the cloud lingered over the tabernacle, staying above it, the sons of Israel remained camped and did not set out; but when it was lifted, they did set out. We need to wait for the Lord and then follow as He leads.

Life can be confusing, but our Lord will guide us.  We need to live like Israel in the wilderness.  We need to watch for Him, wait upon Him, and follow Him.
